Samsung officially announces Android 4.0 ICS roll out for Galaxy S II

Several ding dongs & leaks later, Samsung has finally announced its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S II. The announcement came from Samsung Mobile itself and the roll out starts in Europe including Poland, Hungary & Sweden as well as Korea beginning today 13th March 2012. The rest of the countries will be getting it later by phases.

Other devices that will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich later on would include Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

For older devices such as the original Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Galaxy S Plus and the recent Galaxy W, they won’t be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Instead they will be getting an upgraded Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware which comes with additional new features such as Face Unlock. This is likely to be the value pack firmware which was teased earlier on.

Thanks @override182 for the alert!

Alvin

Soyacincau, did you accidentally missed out the galaxy Tab 7 plus in the list of devices or Samsung is not planning to release upgrades for it ?

lala

galaxy note………..waiting………..

    @wizview

ics for note ? you shud be damn lucky to get it in April/May2012.

Heard that flash animations in websites will disappear with ics

Dan

What happen to Tab 7.0 Plus and Tab 7.7? No upgrade?

aie

7+ no ics?

O'rly

I smell potential steamrolling strategy to out gun newer smartphones. Good move though. Capture the remaining market before S3 comes.

mobibu

I've waited patiently, finally, the ICS update for S2 is here. Better late than never….

wallace

Hey soyacincau is there any possibility for 7.0 plus and 7.7 to be on ice cream sandwich??

cellphonegeeks

ICS is by far the most visually appealing version of Android that I have seen to date. Been patiently waiting for this update. Better late than never.

Squall_Chua

i wonder if i could directly update from version 2.3.3

finally

FINALLYYYYY. IOD5 GO DIE.

    Mike

Can you please 'die' ? We really don't need fanboys like you (whatever OS you prefer) to be here spouting nonsense.

    ykkok

Basically, some people are just anti anything that's famous or popular.

When Windows dominated, Microsoft go die.
When it's Apple's turn, Apple go die.
One day if Android is popular, the same people will start cursing Google.

I just don't know why and what is this kind of syndrome?

    finally

    u die, i die, ios5 die. wheehee.

finally

*IOS5
