Reports are coming in that sources close to the project has indicated that the PlayStation phone (currently codenamed Zeus) is slated for a March 2011 release right after it makes its official public appearance at the mother of all mobile technology trade shows — Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2011.
In addition, the source has revealed that the will very likely carry the Playstation Phone rather than a Sony Ericsson Xperia name.
The PlayStation phone is expected to be similar in size to the Sony PSP Go. Running Android 2.3, the PlayStation phone is expected to featuer a 3.7in capacitive screen (rather small for portable gaming standards if you ask us) with a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor, 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM. In addition, there’s a built-in touchpad with multitouch support nestled in between the slide out gaming controllers. On expandable media, it uses the standard microSD instead of Sony’s proprietary Memory Stick format.
Looks like it’s shaping up to be a very interesting first quarter next year. We can’t wait!
