YouTube takes a look back at 2011 and lists down the most viewed videos for this year.

2011 is also a landmark year for YouTube as it surpassed the one trillion video playbacks mark. That’s more than twice as many stars as in the Milky Way, so among the millions of hours of videos which one is the most viewed in 2011?

You’ll be surprised with the result.

This viral video from Hong Kong pokes fun at Apple fans standing in line to purchase the iPhone 4S. The video follows the same concept and treatment as a series of commercials that Samsung aired in the US that also poked fun at Apple fans standing in line for the iPhone 4S.

The difference is where in the US commercial it is clear that Samsung was behind it with this one, the link is not as distinct. There’s no Samsung or Google branding except for the Galaxy Nexus being mentioned a number of times and the obvious attack on Apple with the mocking of the iPhone 4S and Siri.

What’s interesting about this video is that it was shot at the same location where people actually stood in line to purchase the iPhone 4S. The location became infamous because the people standing in line created such a ruckus that the Hong Kong police had to come and disperse.

But this is not the first time Samsung deployed viral videos to promote its mobile devices. Earlier this year, Samsung launched a viral campaign that was masked as a street video showing a local celebrity getting into an argument with his girlfriend.

The video, which received over 1.5 million hits in its debut week, featured the celebrity having quarreling with his girlfriend over a smartphone. The topic revolved around how the celebrity is not giving the girlfriend enough “holding hand” time because both of his hands are preoccupied operating his smartphone.

Nokia has just released a series of six-9 second ads to showcase the various features of the Nokia N9 on its YouTube channel. Each video offers clues to what you’ll see in the next one.

The official description says:

We don’t usually mention mobile tech other than mobile phones and to a certain degree tablet devices based on mobile operating systems here on our blog but this Samsung Galaxy Player interactive viral ad on YouTube is pretty cool so we thought we’d share it with you.

The interactive video promotes Samsung’s iPod touch rival the Galaxy Player 50. As you watch the ad you get to choose multiple endings all pretty interesting to watch. Its a not bad way to promote a personal media player if you ask us.

Voice search, is something of a hit and miss in these here parts of the world. Though it’s not the voice recognition technology that’s to blame. More often than not its the context of the words that a person uses to search using speech on Google and also there’s a matter of localised names and terms that we use everyday in our searches.

So although being able to search the web hands-free is a boon, the inconvenience of having to repeat yourself a number of times to get the search term right is not. But that’s not saying that Google Voice Search is completely useless, and to illustrate how useful searching using just your voice can be Google has just released a series of short videos on its official Google Mobile YouTube channel. It’s also kind of cool that the videos are interactive.

Yeah, it’s all very Americanised but we have to say that Google’s voice recognition technology is pretty accurate even with non-American or British speaking tongues like us here in Malaysia.

Having said that however, we’d like to see Google attempt things a bit more localised considering that it has offices all over the world and not only Americans use Google search.

Ok before all the P1 haters out there take out their pitchforks, we’re making it clear, we have no conclusive evidence but based on our own use of the service and from feedback we’ve been getting from other P1 users, the YouTube streaming has been choppy of late.

Everyone knows that with P1, when it’s good, its really good but when it’s crap, you can’t do jack online. But we can’t help but notice that we’re getting consistently slow streaming on YouTube when on the P1 network. It’s been happening almost all the time in the past couple of weeks.

We noticed that we had no problems whatsoever surfing almost every other sites and even downloading torrents is as smooth as butter. So is P1 throttling down YouTube streaming? It doesn’t make sense for them to, if they want to curb data hoggers and network abusers, then they should go straight for the throat and clamp down on torrent downloading.

But so far, it has been the other way around, we’ve been getting good download speeds but very bad streaming on YouTube. Anyone else going through the same thing? Comment us.

U Mobile has finally launched several TV Commercials on national TVs. To date we have seen 4 different versions. For those who haven’t seen it, we managed to find 2 of the ads on YouTube. Personally we liked the Teh Tarik version which is quite funny and unexpected, especially the part at the very end.
