Yes today has announced the Huddle XS, its 2nd 4G Hotspot device. The original Yes Huddle is one of our favourite portable MiFi solution that’s easy to use with stellar performance.

The new model comes with a smaller footprint and it is almost half the weight of its predecessor. In terms of specs which we’ve obtained from InfoMark, the Huddle XS has less battery capacity but boasts a longer life of up to 6 hours. The only disadvantage of the Huddle XS is the lack of removable battery.

For existing or those intending to subscribe to Yes on prepaid, the Huddle XS is priced at RM480 outright. It is also offered as low as RM80 if you purchased it with 24 months contract of Yes Unlimited Super Postpaid plans.

For more information of the new Huddle XS, head over to Yes Huddle XS page.

Yes today has finally launched its long awaited 4G Android smart phone that comes with dual-mode (4G WiMAX/3G SIM) capabilities. It retails for RM1,688 outright and comes bundled with 3 plan options of 3 plans on offer at RM88, RM138 & RM238 monthly.

The eclipse can be yours for free with 24 months bundling of eclipse 238 plan that comes with 7GB of data, free calls/SMS within Yes network and 1000 free SMS/minutes of voice calls. Interesting to note that they are offering the new slim Huddle XS 4G hotspot for RM400 with the bundled offer. The huddle XS is going for RM480 outright or RM80 when bundled with 24 months contract of Yes Postpaid plan. More details of the huddle XS here.

In terms of specs, it runs on a single core 1GHz Qualcomm processor with 512MB RAM and 2GB of ROM. Over at the front you get a 4.1″ WVGA display with a front facing VGA camera. At the back it comes with a 5MP camera with assisted LED flash and it is powered with a 1,500mAh battery. The eclipse runs on a rather dated Android 2.2 Froyo. In addition to your standard Android features, the eclipse can support 4 way video calls and 6 way audio calls over Yes’s 4G network. Being a dual-mode device, you can stay connected or make calls via your regular 3G SIM where Yes’s 4G network is out of reach.

More info on the Yes Eclipse here.

Head after the break for the introductory video of the Yes Eclipse phone.

Update: Picture of the actual device right after the jump. @jnoathan who contributed the picture also mentioned that the device will be called the Huddle XS. Also, @dieselelectric highlighted something we forgot to mention earlier — unlike the original Huddle, the Huddle XS features non-removable battery. Thanks guys! More details of the Huddle XS here.

In addition to the launch of its very own 4G Android smartphone, Yes is also working on a new version of its Huddle 4G mobile WiFi router and while we’ve heard about this a number of times since last year, there has not been any solid information about the device. That is, until now.

In the treasure trove of geekdom that is the LowYat.Net forums, we found very detailed albeit not officially confirmed information about the new Yes Huddle.

Like the old Huddle, the new Huddle is an off-the-shelve solution by Korean manufacturer Infomark and it’s the device you see pictured above. Overall, the new Huddle will be thinner and have a smaller footprint than the original but the device is said to have a longer battery lifespan – 7.8 hours claimed compared to the 5 hours in the original Huddle. The new Huddle is also thinner at 12.5mm compared to 18mm in the original. As far as we know, there won’t be any colour options, the new Huddle will only be offered in white.

The new Huddle also features an improved operation status indicator with three separate LEDs in charge of displaying power, WiMAX and WiFi status indicators making the power and wireless status levels easier to read at a glance. Although we would prefer a proper screen that can display information in more detail.

In terms of pricing, a source in the LowYat.Net forums said that it will retail for RM480 and is likely to be offered for free with a 24 months contract. Launch detail has not been revealed yet but it looks like it will happen soon if not at the same time as the Eclipse launch.

The Huddle is one of our favourite mobile router because of its long lasting battery and the consistent high-speed performance offered by the Yes 4G network. The new Huddle improves on all the critical aspects of the old Huddle and is set to be another popular device from Yes. However we would like to see Yes offer a special upgrade scheme for existing or long-standing customer to incentivise them to purchase the new device. Hopefully they’ve thought about that already.

Valentine’s day is coming on February 14th and Yes is running a special Valentine’s Day promotion for the month of February. They are offering a combo of a Yes 4G Mifi or home gateway that comes with a free USB modem and a chance to publicly declare your love on their big Yes LED Cube in front of Lot 10 on Valentine’s day.

For RM499, they are offering either Yes huddle MiFi or a Yes Zoom gateway which comes with 2x RM50 reloads. Looking at the details, they are giving RM30 free credit upon activation. On top of that, <del>they will give RM60 loyalty credit for every 6 months within the 1 year subscription period</del> they give RM60 if you stay with them for 6 months and they will give additional RM100 if you stay on further until 12 months. That makes the Yes huddle Mifi and Yes Zoom effectively RM249 if you stay with them for a year.

In the promo, they listed a total bundle of RM190 credit but from our calculation it is RM130 bundled credit upfront and additional <del>RM120</del>RM160 credit if you stay on for a year. Not sure if there’s any mistake but do clarify with them before signing up. In addition, they will also give a free Yes Go USB Modem with RM50 rebate credit for your loved one. Seriously, a USB stick as a Valentine’s Day gift? We rather you give the Yes Huddle Mifi as a gift instead.

Only those that purchase the Valentine combo will be entitled to submit their dedications online. The top 10 will be picked and shall be notified on February 13th, the day before the dedications go live on V-day. As extra goodies, they are also throwing additional prizes for the best top 3 submissions for the entire month.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi is now available for bundling from Yes. The package deal at RM1,679 comes with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (worth RM1,299), a Yes MiFi Huddle (worth RM399), Yes ID (worth RM50) and RM90 credit (RM30 x 3 months). This gives a total savings of RM159 from the total value.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 had entered the Malaysian market earlier this month quietly at RM1,699 for the 3G version and RM1,299 for the WiFi only version. Compared to the its larger Galaxy Tab 10.1 sibling, the Tab 8.9 is identical in terms of processing power, memory and screen resolution despite its small dimensions. If a 10.1″ is too big to handle, a 8.9″ is a more practical size and it is also 95 grams lighter. This offer with Yes bundling is available at Senheng, Harvey Norman and Yes outlets from tomorrow 25th November until 31st December 2011.

If you’re confused with the various Galaxy Tabs in the market, check out our Samsung Galaxy Tab comparison post where we compare all the specs side by side. Next month, we would be expecting the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and Galaxy Tab 7.7 to hit Malaysia. So far, U Mobile has already commenced registration of interest for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with official availability slated for 5th December.

Yes is doing a special Raya promo where they are giving free credit and Yes ID registration when you purchase their wireless devices. In addition, they are also giving extra free credits if you stay with them for extended duration.

First up, their Yes Huddle MiFi and Yes Zoom home gateway which is sold at RM399 each comes with RM30 credit together with free Yes ID registration worth RM50. If you stay with them for 6 months, RM60 will be credited into your Yes Account. Upon reaching 12 months, they will credit another RM100 credit. In total, that’s RM190 worth of free credits for 12 months. Initially we thought you’ll get RM160 after a year but it was revealed in the FAQ that only RM100 is given, hence RM160 is the total credit rewarded. As expected, you need to keep your account active for 12 months which requires a minimum top up of RM30/month.

For those who didn’t know, your normal Yes Credits can be transferred to Yes ValuePack seamlessly online. This is useful when you foresee a high monthly usage and you can tap into your remaining credit.

Meanwhile the simple Yes Go is offered at RM100 which comes with Yes ID (worth RM50) and RM50 worth of rebate. No details whether the rebate is given one shot or by monthly basis. If RM50 is given immediately, this makes it a good temporary prepaid broadband service for tourist.

We’ve just came back from Lot 10 where Yes flagship store is located. At time of launch, only 2 devices are offered – Yes Go, their 4G USB Gongle and Yes Huddle MiFi device. Their 4G Phone – Yes Buzz and home gateway – Yes Zoom which was showed off during the brand launch will only be making an appearance in December.

Yes Go

Their USB dongle is the most affordable entry into yes from RM99 for the USB dongle. For RM99, they will also rebate RM100 worth of credit over 10 months, meaning RM10 x 10. At the bottom of the brochure, you’ll notice that yes charges RM50 for activation for first time users but they are able to rebate that RM50 off from the bundled RM100 credit, leaving you 5 months of RM10 rebates later on.

Yes Huddle

Yes Huddle is their 4G MiFi device which is sold at RM399 outright without any bundled credit. However there’s a special bundle which gives you the MiFi for free if you pay RM1199 upfront for RM1200 of credit. If RM1199 is a burden to pay, there’s also a EPP Credit card installment plan of RM50 x 24 months.

Yes Pricing & Credit

The yes pricing and rates is something everybody would know by now, which is 9 sen for 3MB of data or a 1 minute of talktime or for an SMS. There’s also a rebate system for those who use beyond 2.5GB. To understand the rebate better, check out our previous post on yes rebates.

When it comes to credit, Yes did shout about no expiry but there’s a minimum commitment of RM30/month which many wouldn’t know. So even if you don’t really use that much, you need to top up a minimum of RM30 in order to use yes. So in a nutshell, the credits won’t <del datetime="2010-11-21T08:58:19+00:00">expire</del> but they do get suspended if you don’t top up RM30 on a monthly basis.

UPDATE: Yes Credits DO Expire after 90 days of inactivity. Read about it here.

Registration & Sign up

If you’ve preregistered your yes ID earlier, the process is fairly simple. Just present your IC and they are able to pull your details. Next they will check if your area is under coverage before proceeding. From our initial observation, it looks like Yes has covered substantial areas around the Klang Valley right now. You can check the coverage at http://coverage.yes.my.

During our sign up, the queue on the 1st floor of Lot 10 wasn’t that long and we managed to get our Yes Go device within 20 minutes. Before we left the counter, we were told to wait for 3 hours for activation before we can start using.

So how does Yes 4G perform? We will find out next and compare it against its mobile internet rivals. Do follow us via twitter at @Soya_Cincau for the latest updates.

Over the past few days, Yes — the latest 4G operator in town — had launched an interesting guerrilla marketing campaign focused around the Bukit Bintang area. The campaign had a group of people dressed up as stormtroopers made famous by Star Wars saga emblazoned with the Yes logo walking around the Bukit Bintang area to create buzz about the brand.

This viral-guerrilla marketing thing that Yes is doing is no doubt very interesting and it certainly does generate a lot of interest for the brand and its upcoming mobile service that is slated to be launched on November 19.

Ahead of the full service launch, Yes has started an online <a href=http://www.soyacincau.com/2010/11/04/yes-starts-registration-of-yesid">pre-registration campaign to allow those who are interested in signing up for the service to pick a unique Yes ID and 018 mobile number.

A quick scan on Facebook and Twitter reveals that many are liking this novel approach as well but the question still remains, will Yes be a mobile operator that can deliver the goods or will it struggle to find traction in an intensely competitive industry?

The proof is in eating the pudding and it seems — for now at least — Yes is making all the right moves building up to the brand’s service launch next week, but until we can experience the Yes network for ourselves, we’ll reserve our judgment.

The reason as to why the Yes stormtroopers are roaming in and around the Bukit Bintang area is because, the Yes flagship store will be located at Lot 10. To remind the public of the upcoming launch, the people at Yes have erected a massive LED cube that displays a countdown timer to the launch day at the location of the flagship store

We were on site at the flagship store at the centre concourse area of Lot 10 and construction looks to be almost complete. From what we’ve seen, the Yes flagship store appears to have been heavily influenced by Steve Job’s Apple Stores with its simple yet clean appearance.

Like we’ve mentioned before, things are looking good for the launch of yet another mobile broadband operator in Malaysia and we can’t wait to try the service out. At launch, Yes will be offering 4 devices during launch — USB Modem, 4G Phone, 4G MiFi and 4G Home Desktop Modem.

Keep it locked on to SoyaCincau.com for the latest developments on Yes.

More photos after the jump.
