The new Sony Xperia NXT Series comes with an iconic transparent belt that lights up when awaken or there’s an incoming call. Unfortunately the transparent belt seems to be under utilised with most notifications relying on the standard LED notification.
We know a lot of people are asking if they can use the transparent belt as a notification light instead. Now the request seems to be answered through an app developed by Rundgong with no rooting required. Setting up is pretty easy and you’ll just need to pick the model and what type of illumination is used for missed calls and SMS.
The Xperia S and Xperia P comes with a single white LED option while the Xperia U has a wider array of colours. To differentiate the notification, you can set the blink rate or keep it as always on until the screen is unlocked. Users of the Xperia U with its multi LED belt will certainly be benefiting a lot from this app while the Xperia P won’t be as useful as the transparent belt illumination is rather dim for our liking.

During our unboxing of the Xperia S, it lacked the additional accessories such as HDMI cable and NFC Smart Tags. At the Sony Xperia NXT Malaysian launch today, it is revealed that they are throwing more goodies worth RM534 with the Xperia S for a limited time only.
The special package comes with car charger with micro USB cable, screen protector, HDMI cable, LiveSound hifi heatset and Xperia Smart Tags. For the Smart Tags, we are told that they are including 4 pieces.
For those that pre-ordered with DiGi, no word whether they will be getting the extra bundles as well. The Xperia S will be sold at RM1,899 and will be available at Sony Stores and authorised dealers beginning 21st March 2012. The 4 big telcos – DiGi, Celcom, Maxis & U Mobile will be offering bundled plans for the Xperia S as well.

The Sony Xperia S will be launched to the Malaysian media on Thursday, March 15 and chances are it will be available in stores on Friday, March 16. While there are a number of you who are very curious about the Xperia S, there will be others who have already made up their minds on geting one, either way reading the manual of the Xperia S would give you some very valuable information as to what you can expect from Sony’s top-of-the-line Android smartphone.
And if you’re one of those people who like pouring through a user manual, then you’re in luck because Sony has just released the user manual for the Xperia S in a multitude of languages online — you can download the PDFs here.
Happy reading and do let us know if you find anything interesting. We found out that the Xperia S supports USB On-the-Go (USB OTG) but the bad news is not all cables work. You will need an unusual type of cable to access USB OTG and the one we had – which came from bundled with the Nokia N8 – didn’t work. So if you want to access this feature, make sure you test the cable with your future Xperia S before buying it.
UPDATE: DiGi starts pre-order for Sony Xperia S. RRP at RM1,899.
We know a lot of you have been waiting for this news. Sony has confirmed that they will be launching the full range of their Xperia NXT series next week. That’s right people, the Xperia S, U and P will be introduced to the media on Thursday, March 15.
There’s no official word on market availability but looking at how things are going, you can expect, at the very least, for the Xperia S to be in stores on Friday, March 16. While the Xperia U and P will be shown to the media on Thursday, we’re not entirely sure if the two models will be on sale at the same time as the Xperia S. In any case, we’ll find out soon enough. And while we wait for March 15 to come along, check out this comparison we did comparing the specs of the Xperia S, U and P.
So Xperia S, U or P, which one’s your pick? Comment away!
