When firstly introduced, it came only with a single RM99 plan for 3GB of data. If 3GB is too much, they also offer 2 smaller monthly data plans of RM30 for 250MB and RM50 for 500MB.

Of course, the price of the iPhone 3G would be less subsidised for the smaller “byte” packages.

iPhone 3G S coming to Malaysia?

Another hot news is that new iPhone 3G S is coming to Malaysia by Maxis as highlighted here and here. The rumoured date of launch is 19th July 2009. Some questions come to mind if this does launch in the weeks to come:

Will Maxis maintain the same price for the new iPhone 3G S?

Is there an upgrade plan for those who purchased iPhone 3G from Maxis?

What happens to existing stock of iPhone 3G?

Nothing is confirmed but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a better deal to come.

Update: iData Plan could be added onto your existing Value Plus Plans!

New iData plans from Maxis for iPhone.

Just commit RM99 for 3GB data cap per month and the iPhone is yours for as low as RM1700 (24-months contract, 8GB).

The Maxis iData plan is just for data only. However, we’ve confirmed with Maxis that it is possible to add this on to your existing Value Plus Plans. This ultimately replace the previous 6 months Value Plus Plan for iPhone 3G.

This is great as previously those who wish to keep their Value Plus Plans are forced to buy the iPhone 3G 8GB for RM2540 over 6 months. With this, customers now have a longer contract which also makes the iPhone 3G more affordable.

If you’re an existing Value Plus plan with add-on RM99 unlimited data (but hardly use up to 3GB), this is the plan for you.

More on Maxis iData HERE.

Another new addition is the Prepaid Plan for Hotlink customers.

The price of RM2540 for the 8GB and RM2960 for the 16GB version is similar to the previous Value Plus iPhone package for 6 months contract. However, those who opt for this plan would get 12 months of 500MB data.

After a long wait after hearing news & speculations, Maxis is the official telco to sell the ground breaking iPhone 3G. No doubt it has been a long wait since July 2008 when we first started the online petition at iPhone 3G for Malaysia but we’re glad that the wait is over. Maxis offers both iPhone 3G 8GB & 16GB that comes in black and white (16GB version only).

Lets take a look at what Maxis has offering:

Contract Plans

As expected, Maxis offers various contract durations with 6 months, 12 months and 24 months. Obviously a shorter contract period would have fetch a higher price for the iPhone 3G device while a longer contact period and higher commitment fee such as the i-Value 24 months Plan offers the iPhone 3G 8GB version for FREE.

6 months Contract

12 months Contract

24 months Contract

At first glance, we think Maxis is over doing it by coming out with various of plans and packages with different bundles. If you see from above, there are a total of 12 plans to choose from! Getting an iPhone 3G should have been easier and it shouldn’t take a genius to find out which package gives the best value.

In these times where people are getting more hard up financially, the timing of the launch isn’t exactly perfect. The price however isn’t as cheap as speculated before (iPhone 3G under RM1000) and customers would need to pay an advance payment ranging from RM200-RM2000 depending on plan.

However, we do believe that some people out there who are willing to fork out more cash for the purpose of being different. Judging by the sales of unofficial units in Malaysia that costs RM2000-RM3000, this simply proves that people are still willing to spend even for a non-official released product.

iPhone 3G as MNP bait

With no hesitation to capture more people into its growing community, Maxis also added an online booking for non-Maxis subscribers. However you’re porting must be successful before you could claim your iPhone 3G booking. It is known that Maxis will give priority to those who booked the iPhone 3G online prior its big event on the coming 20th-22nd March 2009 at KLCC Convention Centre.
