Successors to the LG Optimus One unofficially revealed

Posted:  July 13, 2011   By: ccsoya   No comments

Despite its no-frills outlook, the cheap and cheerfully priced LG Optimus One was probably most bang-for-the-buck Android smartphone in the market when it was launched in Malaysia late last year.

The 3.2-inch Optimus One ran Android 2.2 with a 600MHz processor and a 3.2MP rear camera. Priced at RM899 at launch, the LG Optimus One is about half the price of similarly equipped HTC Legend/Aria and was the phone of choice for Android fans on a budget.

Nearly a year old the Optimus One is way overdue for a refresh. Not to be outdone by newer budget Androids like the rather talented Samsung Galaxy Ace, LG reveals not one but two replacements for it’s entry level Android.

LG Optimus 7 now from RM668 on Celcom

Posted:  June 20, 2011   By: soyacincau   4 comments

Windows Phone 7 devices are getting more affordable with now Celcom offering the LG Optimus 7 from as low as RM668. This is a big reduction which is lower than its initial RM777 offer for the first 150 units a few months ago.

Outright the device is priced at RM2099 and Celcom offers 4 different plan options with 12 months and 18 months contract duration. The RM668 bundle offer is tied on a 18 months contract with Celcom Exec 250 which comes with 5GB mobile data. For those who want smaller commitments, there are other lower commitment plans between RM78-RM118/month.

Just a few days ago, Maxis had reduced their HTC HD7 bundled pricing to as low as RM799 which is tied to a 24 months contract. Now we’re wondering if DiGi drop their WP7 pricing as well.

For more info, head over to Celcom’s Windows Phone 7 site.

Celcom Axiata has revealed Malaysia’s first ever Windows Phone 7 bundle ahead of Maxis. The bundled device is the LG Optimus 7 at an attractive price of RM777 only for the first 150 units. The Optimus 7 RRP price was mentioned as RM2099.

For the RM777 promo, you are tied with a 18 months contract and a RM300 upfront payment is required. If you wish to cancel halfway, a RM500 penalty applies. So far they haven’t release the normal bundling details after 150 units. Perhaps they are waiting to see what Maxis has to offer on the HTC HD7 which is happening later today.

Competition is heating up between Maxis and Celcom as Maxis too is announcing the HTC HD7 today. More details as soon as we get them.

LG Optimus One in Malaysia at RM899

Posted:  November 20, 2010   By: soyacincau   14 comments

The LG Optimus One appears quietly in Malaysia via TheStar’s TechCentral. They had a simple review titled “A Droid on a budget” that gave a quick insight on what the Optimus One had to offer. What’s important is that the listed price was mentioned as RM899 which is well priced for a Froyo device in Malaysia. The specs are quite similar to the HTC Legend/Aria as it features a 600MHz processor and a 3.2″ HVGA (320×240) (320×480) display. When it comes to pricing, the LG Optimus One is about half the price of the HTC Legend/Aria.

Earlier we had a tip that the LG Optimus One will be coming sometime next week with Celcom rumoured being the exclusive telco. With this new discovery we are now more convinced that this is more than just a rumour. The Windows Phone 7 sibling, the LG Optimus 7 was also mentioned to be released sometime next week. Let’s wait and see if Celcom offers their contract pricing in the next few days.

RUMOUR: LG Optimus One and Optimus 7 coming to Malaysia?

Posted:  November 18, 2010   By: soyacincau   4 comments

We have received a tip that LG Optimus One and LG Optimus 7 is coming to Malaysia real soon, in fact sometime next week. The LG Optimus One is an Android device that runs on Froyo which recently sold over a million units in just 40 days. The other device is the LG Optimus 7 which runs on Windows Phone 7. Word has it that the devices will be exclusive on Celcom, which has been very quiet lately with non-Blackberry devices.

It was also mentioned that Celcom together with LG is trying to push the launch as early as possible in order to beat rival Maxis’s similar announcement on a HTC device. The HTC device in question is most likely the HTC HD7 which is undergoing ROI with Maxis.

We have to stress that this piece of information is not confirmed yet. If its true, it will be an exciting face off next week between 2 telcos and 2 Windows Phone 7 devices.

Special thanks to Panda for the heads up!

1 million LG Optimus One sold in 40 days

Posted:  November 17, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

LG’s Optimus One has sold over 1 million units in just 40 days worldwide. As comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S sold 500,000 units in 33 days but that’s only units sold in Korea by SKT.

This makes the Optimus One the fastest selling device ever by LG Electronics and it has been widely distributed in Europe, Asia Pacific and the US although it is hardly seen in our parts in Malaysia. At time of its announcement, the LG Optimus One was among the first few devices that comes shipped with Froyo as standard. It comes with a 3.2″ HVGA screen, 600Mhz processor and a 1500mAh battery making it a mid-range Android device. Well, looks like LG has the right formula in making a best seller despite having a lame looking commercial recently.

Lame LG Optimus One Claymation ad

Posted:  November 8, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

LG has a claymation ad for its Android based Optimus One. The ad titled “Once upon a time with LG Optimus” features a senseless mash up of Snow White, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Terminator. There’s a little apple bashing moment at the beginning where the “princess” fainted after eating the forbidden white apple.

Overall the video was BAD and we don’t really know what LG is trying to promote here. Totally understandable if this is an advertisement for kids snack or candybar but for a phone, it is a classic example of how not to make a TVC.

Watch the terrible video after the jump
