(Update 21092010) We’ve updated the post with the screen caps from the booking process and apparently only those who have registered their interest earlier can book the iPhone 4. Click here to read more about it.
We just discovered that Maxis has opened booking for the iPhone 4 and it looks like you can get an iPhone 4 as early as midnight 24 September if you book quick enough.
The booking process allows you book an iPhone 4 for one supplementary line as well and you can choose the time you would like to collect the iPhone 4 and the location. Currently your choices are limited to The Gardens.
iPhone 4 units are limited to first come first serve so you better be quick and click here to book your iPhone 4 before the first batch runs out!
More screencaps on the booking process coming.
DiGi, your move.

We’ll be at the Maxis “invitation only” iPhone 4 launch happening late night 23 September to time the release of the iPhone 4 at the stroke of midnight 24 September effectively making Maxis Malaysia’s first telco to launch the iPhone 4 ahead of DiGi.
We’ll be providing you with the latest updates from the launch event via Twitter. So if you’re not already following us, please do. If you already are, thanks for the support.
Also, do comment us if you have questions of things that you would specifically like to know about the iPhone 4 offers from Maxis. If you have questions you want to ask the reps there, we’ll be more than happy to ask them for you. FYI, Sandip Das Jean-Pascal van Overbeke and a few C-levels from Maxis will be attending.
Frankly speaking we’re very excited to see what Maxis has in store for the launch. Granted, most of the details are out already but we have a feeling that Maxis is saving something special for the event. It’s only a hunch and we could be wrong but we’ll see how it goes.

(Update 21092010) There’s a misprint on the RRP price for the 32GB iPhone 4. It’s actually RM2,690 NOT RM2,490. How silly of us and we’re sorry for the confusion. We’ll update the tables in a bit. Thanks to commenter Berlinwall for pointing it out.
The big news this week is the iPhone 4 launch in Malaysia. It’s a close race between DiGi and Maxis on who will launch it first and what kind of plans will be on the table.
Looks like Maxis has released the first salvo with full details on their iPhone 4 plans and it is confirmed that they will be launching the new iPhone on Friday, 24 September 2010.
In an unprecedented move DiGi will also be launching the iPhone 4 on the same day but DiGi has been very quiet on what kind of plans that they will be offering to counter what Maxis has put out. We’re expecting DiGi to pull something big out of their hats, but it’s not going to be much different from the plans that Maxis has. The main differentiator will be the value added stuff and rebates that both telcos are willing to fork out. The question is how much money is Maxis and DiGi willing to pay in terms of cost-per-customer to win subscribers?
In the meantime let’s take a close look at the new iPhone plans from Maxis and compare them with the old iPhone plans to see if what’s on offer is really good value for money.

Now that we know how much the official release of the iPhone 4 will retail in Malaysia, how does it stack up against RRP prices from around the globe?
Here’s a listing of the iPhone 4 prices from countries that offer the device unlocked and without a contract with the most expensive at the top and the cheapest towards the bottom. But before you proceed, do note that we’re dealing with numerous exchange rates here which means prices indicated are approximate and not exact. It does however give you some indication of how much the iPhone 4 costs in various parts of the world.
Also, it’s worth pointing out that currently Maxis doesn’t offer outright purchases of the iPhone 4. The device is unlocked but you’ll need to purchase one with a 12 or 24 month contract with Maxis.
We Malaysians have the fourth cheapest iPhone 4 RRP in the world, which is not bad.
And now, we shall wait to see what DiGi has to say about all this.

Maxis has just released full details of its iPhone 4 plans ahead of the telco’s official launch of the device this Friday, 24 September.
As far as we can see, there are a few enhancements in the new iValue and iData plans but we’ll get into the details of that a little later. For now, we’re seeing that the contract extension offer to existing iPhone 3G and 3GS owners is very encouraging and is similar to what the AT&T are doing.
Maxis has done a good job with this contract extension offer and it definitely makes iPhone 4 ownership to existing customers a tremendously attractive proposition, to an extent that we, as iPhone 3GS owners are also considering on taking up the offer.
Incidentally, there’s not even a peep from DiGi as to what their iPhone 4 offering will be. Looking at what Maxis has to offer, DiGi has to come up with something very special to counter.
At the end of the day it’s us, the consumer who wins, and that’s a good thing.

UPDATE: Maxis iPhone 4 pricing and plans now official.
We gotten a heads up on the purported iPhone 4 offering by Maxis via twitter.
What’s interesting is that there will be a contract extension program offered during launch for existing users of iPhone 3GS up to a maximum of 30 months, inclusive of current contract. This will come with a fee of RM50.
The grand event is purportedly happening on 24th September at 12am-4am for invited guest only. More details to come soon as we get it.

Those who’ve registered their interest for the iPhone 4 with Maxis will have received another update email about the iPhone 4.
To the iPhone veteran, the email talks about the most mundane of things related to the device, in this case the emails give readers a brief overview on how to backup, setup and sync you iPhone.
Nothing new, but what caught our attention is this particular sentence right at the beginning of the email: “the iPhone 4 will be arriving any day now”.
It is by no means a clear indication when exactly Maxis will launch the iPhone 4 but it does give the impression that launch day is eminent and when it does happen, you’ll be sure to get the latest here at SoyaCincau.com.
We wonder if DiGi will put an early iPhone 4 launch and beat Maxis to the punch? They are already offering Micro SIMs.
This is going to be fun!

While waiting for the iPhone 4 announcement, a lowyat forum user rynstar has posted the leaked pricing of Maxis’s iPhone 3GS 8GB. The iPhone 3GS 8GB is the new “entry level” iPhone launched together with the iPhone 4.
From the partial shot above, the iPhone 3GS 8GB retails at RM1990 and it can be free on an unnamed plan over 24 months. We believe the upper part of table could be bundled pricing for iValue plans while the lower 2 could be for Prepaid users judging on its higher price tag.
No updates on their website yet but this could indicate that the official Maxis iPhone 4 launch is imminent.

As we’re drawing closer and closer to the date we predict that the iPhone 4 will launch in Malaysia, Maxis have been dropping clues on Facebook that an iPhone 4 launch is near.
First up, Maxis has ran out of the 16GB iPhone 3GS and there are “limited stock” of the 32GB 3GS. This is not much of a surprise, everyone knows both Maxis and DiGi are clearing 3GS stocks to make way for the iPhone 4 and the 8GB 3GS.

But what’s interesting is that Maxis, on its FB page have indicated that they will launch the iPhone 4 sometime in “August or September”. We might have to revise our prediction slightly but we still feel that an August launch is probable.

Now, it’s just a matter of Maxis making the announcement.
Speaking of device launches, it appears that DiGi and Maxis are not as enthusiastic about bringing the BlackBerry Torch to Malaysia as they are with the iPhone 4. Even Celcom, a telco that’s big on Berrys are not saying anything about the Torch.

If you’re wondering which country is selling the cheapest non-contract, unlocked iPhone 4, well look no further than Singapore where you can get an unlocked, no contract 32GB iPhone 4 for about RM2,450 (a 16GB version is around RM2,074).
Technically Hong Kong is cheaper by about RM20 but you have to factor in the flight cost and the time it takes to fly there so the savings is really not that worth it.
Click on the main picture for a larger image and see how the iPhone 4 is priced around the world. The creator of the infographic made it simple for everyone to find the cheapest price by excluding locked iPhone 4s and iPhone 4s that are unlock but require a contract to be purchased. Everything is pretty self-explanatory, you’ll get the drift pretty quickly.
