DiGi has officially announced that they will be offering the iPhone 3G S by middle of this year. This announcement is certainly great news especially when Maxis, the first to offer the iPhone in Malaysia is plague by network data congestion and long waiting list for the device.
With this DiGi has ended Maxis monopoly of the iPhone game in Malaysia for about a year since its launch of iPhone 3G in March 2009. Now we just have to see how DiGi packages and price the iPhone 3G S to offer some real competitive advantage.
In another note, we also hope that DiGi have studied the impact of the iPhone on Maxis in terms of device stock availability and network capacity. To date, DiGi has been getting rave reviews on their Turbo3G network but is it ready to withstand the massive data consumption of iPhone users?
If you’re a DiGi customer or a potential customer who are looking to switch to a telco with iPhone 3G alternative, do drop your email to register your interest.

We at SoyaCincau.com are counting the days for one of the big telcos to make the announcement – Celcom/DiGi/Maxis/U Mobile Introduces the iPhone 3G. But so far no such word has been forthcoming. Maxis looked like the most promising candidate but that was all based on a lot of fluff.
And as with all fluffs, it doesn’t really hold much weight.
Try as we might we can’t seem to dig up any dirt on the device coming to Malaysia. Perhaps it’s because there’s nothing to dig up but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Anyways one guy seems to think that the iPhone 3G is not suitable for Malaysian market.
He argues that iP3G’s built-in camera is nothing to shout about, there’s no MMS support, you can’t make video calls and you’d have to subscribe to an unlimited data service to use the phone to the fullest.
Yesterday, the CEO of Maxis has mentioned that Maxis hopes to be one of the selected operators to offer the iPhone 3G in Malaysia as Apple finalises its distribution policy for Malaysia. It is unknown currently on the state of their negotiations and what type of bundling they might offer.
This piece of news would be interesting for iPhone 3G hopefuls out there who are wanting to get their hands on a official iPhone 3G.
