Toshiba Regza AT200 Tablet coming to Malaysia

Posted:  February 22, 2012   By: soyacincau   No comments

Currently there are loads of Android tablets out there with different sizes. For those that are obsessed with the thinnest, lightest but largest display, the Toshiba Regza AT200 would be on top of your list with its thinnest profile of 7.7mm and it weighs just 535g. As comparison, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 has a thickness of 7.86mm while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 weighs 595g.

In terms of specs, the Regza AT200 runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb with dual-core 1.0GHz (TI OMAP 4430), 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Just like its AT100 predecessor, the AT200 also comes with an array of ports such as micro USB, micro HDMI and micro SD reader. It also has a 5MP camera at the back and a 2MP front facing camera.

According to Lowyat, the Regza AT200 will be priced at RM1,699 and is expected to be available in March.

Celcom offers Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with Broadband Plan + Pay Per Use Voice

Posted:  December 26, 2011   By: soyacincau   1 comment

Looks like Celcom has added another plan offering for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Apart from the usual Celcom Exec 50 + bolt on data, they have now introduced a new Broadband Basic + Pay Per Use plan which costs RM68/month. This is similar to what DG Smart Plan is offering with data being bundled first and voice/sms usage are being charged as additional usage, making it perfect for those that rarely make calls.

On this new Broadband Basic, you’ll get a generous serving of 4GB data while calls are charged at 15sen/min and SMS at 10sen each. In terms of contract price, it is higher than the previous plans at RM1388 for 12 months and RM1328 for 24 months. For just mere RM60 difference, you might as well go for the shorter 12 months period instead. The upfront payment for this Broadband Basic + Pay Per Use plan is RM150 which will be rebated back over 10 months period.

For more information, head over to Celcom’s website.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet from RM2,199, coming next month

Posted:  December 15, 2011   By: soyacincau   3 comments

About 6 months ago, Lenovo Malaysia has announced that 2 Android tablets will be coming our way. The IdeaPad K1 was launched in Malaysia few months ago at RM1,499 but that didn’t created as much impact as the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The next device that is more anticipated is the ThinkPad tablet, which features a more business look from the iconic ThinkPad line of business laptops.

So far there hasn’t been any news about it until recently someone had spotted a newspaper ad which Lenovo seems to be clueless about. The ad reveals the ThinkPad Tablet price starting from RM2,199 for the 32GB version and there’s also a 64GB version as well. The person that spotted it tried to get more details from the retailers but none of them are aware of such device. On the facebook page, Lenovo later clarified that the ThinkPad tablets are on their way into Malaysia and should be available in mid-January 2012.

For RM2,199, that’s quite a lot to ask for considering Ice Cream Sandwich tablets like the ASUS Transformer Prime are on their way as well. However the ThinkPad tablet offers a wide variety of ports such as full sized USB port, mini-USB, mini-HDMI output and a full sized SD card slot. In terms of internal hardware, it runs on 1.0 GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5MP camera and front facing 2MP camera.

Is there anyone waiting for the ThinkPad tablet? IMCC has already listed the product at RM2,199 on their site but didn’t provide much details of the specification just yet.

For more information on the ThinkPad tablet, head over here.

HTC Flyer gets Honeycomb update

Posted:  December 6, 2011   By: ccsoya   7 comments

HTC has begun rolling out Honeycomb updates for the HTC Flyer in Europe. The announcement made by HTC on its global Facebook page didn’t say when Honeycomb will reach HTC Flyers worldwide but looking at past updates, you can expect to see Honeycomb on your HTC Flyer in a few weeks.

The update should come to Malaysia fairly quickly considering that there is very minimal operator customization made to the stock OS on the Flyer. So keep a lookout, we’ll do as well but if you do find the update available for Malaysia let us know. Thanks!

Samsung announces Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Posted:  October 1, 2011   By: soyacincau   10 comments

If the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is slightly too big for your liking, Samsung has announced the new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. At first, the “Plus” moniker does seem like a facelift as seen on the Galaxy S Plus. However this isn’t just an improvement of the old tablet but rather an all new 7″ model.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus runs on a dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and comes with a choice of 16GB/32GB versions. Storage expansion is possible with microSD up to 32GB. Like the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, the display is rather similar with its WSVGA LCD which supports 1024×600.

New on the Tab 7.0 Plus is the usage of PLS (Plane to Line Switching) LCD which offers better viewing angles and brightness. There’s a 3MP camera with assisted LED flash at the back and a 2MP camera at the front. In terms of OS, it is running the latest Android Honeycomb 3.2. Like the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the 7.0 Plus is able to make voice and video calls without needing a bluetooth headset.

Since this is an all new design, the Tab 7.0 Plus is thinner and lighter than the model it replaces at 345g with a thickness of 9.96m. As comparison, the original Galaxy Tab was 380g and 11.98mm. Despite the weight reduction, the Tap 7.0 Plus has a similar battery capacity of 4,000mAh.

With the 7.0 Plus and 7.7 put side by side, the 7.0 Plus should be relatively cheaper with its lower spec screen (PLS LCD vs Super AMOLED Plus). It is also interesting to note that the 7.7 is even lighter at 335g and it has a higher capacity battery of 5,100mAh. You can view the full specification of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus here.

Personally we find 7″ as an optimal size for on the go tablet for day to day use. Let’s hope Samsung will bring this to Malaysia soon with an attractive price tag.

For more information, head over to Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus microsite.

HTC reveals HTC Jetstream LTE tablet for AT&T

Posted:  September 5, 2011   By: soyacincau   2 comments

The 10.1″ honeycomb tablet from HTC has been revealed as the HTC Jetstream, formerly known as the HTC Puccini. This is a 4G LTE ready tablet which is offered via AT&T network. Outright, it goes for a rather pricey US$849.99 (approx. RM2550) or US$699.99 (approx. RM2100) on 2 years contract.

The HTC Jetstream runs on a Qualcomm’s dual core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is upgradable via microSD. Powering the device is a 7300mAh battery rated at 12 hours of web usage. At the back, there’s a 8MP camera with dual flash and there’s a 1.3MP camera at the front. In terms of software, it runs on Android 3.1 with HTC Sense.

Overall, the HTC Jetstream is pretty high spec’ed but it isn’t as slim as today’s contenders. The Jetstream is 13mm thick and weighs 708 grams. One thing we frown upon is the price that’s way too expensive for a honeycomb tablet, even if it LTE ready.

Next question is when will HTC offer plain WiFi or 3G version? Hopefully the pricing will be competitive as they would need to battle it out with other Honeycomb players such as ASUS, Lenovo, Samsung and Motorola.

For more info, you can get more details at AT&T page.
