DiGi has introduced its new DG30 Postpaid plan which is targetted for those who wish to save. This replaces DG20 which was their previous lowest DiGi postpaid plan. DG20 was previously a subscription based plan whereby RM20 is charged for access fee and call usage are charged separately. Now with DG30, the RM30/month is actually commitment that you can use.

DG30 rates are as follows:

DG30 charges 20 sen/minute for voice calls, 10 sen/SMS and 20 sen/MMS for all networks (off-net/on-net).  The only difference with the previous DG20 is the SMS rate which is a much higher 15sen/SMS. As usual, calls are charged at 30 seconds block.

So what’s the big deal? There are pros and cons to this change. Firstly DG30 has an advantage whereby there’s no subscription/access fee and the RM30/month goes directly to your usage.  However, it doesn’t allow supplementary line and this was allowed in the DG20 plan.

Maxis vs. DiGi RM30 Postpaid

As comparison, Maxis also has a RM30/month postpaid called Value First which is a cross between commitment and subscription based postpaid. Its RM30/month is actually RM15/month for access fee and RM15/month worth of usage.

The call rates are charged at 18sen/minute for on-net and 20sen/minute for off-net. SMS is charged at 10sen/SMS for all networks while MMS is charged at 25/sen for on-net and 50/sen for off-net.

Another key difference is that Value First calls are charged at 60 seconds block which would make short calls rather more expensive despite having similar rates as DiGi. Supplementary lines are also not allowed for Maxis Value First.

Our Thoughts

DiGi’s DG30 commitment based postpaid is a great step to migrate prepaid users to postpaid. Most prepaid users would typically spend RM30/month which is the common validity value to sustain their subscription. If you’re a prepaid user, DiGi’s DG30 is recommended to enjoy better rates and 20sen/minute for all calls across all networks is surely a steal for RM30/month.

Maxis had recently created a stirr with its Hotlink Prepaid revamp and from the looks of it, DiGi had responded with a different angle of having a postpaid plan for prepaid users.
