Those who’ve pre-ordered their iPhone from DiGi will be able to collect it this Saturday. One of the major complaints that we’ve been hearing is that it takes ages for anyone to get a 3GS from Maxis. We sent an email to the Corp Comms people of Maxis to find out if this is true or not but they didn’t respond, so we’ll just have to rely on the word on the street.
We don’t know if long waiting periods are still an issue at Maxis but what we do know is that if you order your iPhone from DiGi. You don’t have to wait…well..not that long at least.
We had a quick chat with one of DiGi’s customer service people via D’Chat and we were told that pre-order units that are not collected will go to the next guy that wants it and is willing to pay for it. Which means any dude who walks up to the DiGi counter in One Utama (we believe) should be able to get an iPhone there and then without pre-booking.
We were also told via D’Chat that DiGi has ordered quite a number of the iPhones to meet demand. D’Chat also said that if you order your iPhone from DiGi and they didn’t have stock, you only have to wait for around seven days to get one as opposed to 30 to 40 days or longer with Maxis.
So, if you’re in a hurry to get an iPhone, you know where to go to and let us know if this is indeed true.
Is DiGi’s iPhone offer worth it? How does it compare with Maxis iValue Plans? Which gives you more value? These are questions that most people might be asking. We take a deep look into DiGi’s iPhone price plans and payment modes to give you a clearer view of the iPhone deals being offered.
Plans Types
For DiGi’s iPhone offering, they only offer a commitment based with fixed usage quota type of plans under the denomination of iDiGi 88, iDiGi 138 and iDiGi 238. The numbers indicate the monthly commitment of RM88, RM138 and RM238 respectively.
Unlike most commitment plans that allow you the flexibility to freely use your commitment fee, iDiGi plans fixes the number number of voice calls, SMS, MMS and Internet data usage you make. This similar to Maxis iValue Plan for iPhones.
Unfortunately DiGi does not offer any bolt-on plan like the Maxis iData plans where existing postpaid users are able to get the iPhone by adding on a monthly data plan on contract.

So did DiGi (or its ad agency) leaked out DiGi’s iPhone plans one day before the official launch date? And was it deliberate?
Short answer: DiGi leaked it out and it was very deliberate.
Today, DiGi’s going to give the official word on its iPhone plans. Although a whole lot of you have been eagerly waiting for the launch of this, the real humdinger was, and probably still is, DiGi’s purported leak of the said plans one day before its official launch.
Many were wondering as to how such a (alleged) major faux pas could happen. Some were quick to point fingers to DiGi’s ad and creative agency for the leak but we smelt something fishy…and boy was it rotten.

A day before its official revealing of DiGi iPhone plans, we managed to get a copy of the leaked iPhone brochure.
From the leak brochure, we understand DiGi is offering iDiGi 88, iDiGi 138 and iDiGi 238 which rivals Maxis’s iValue Plans. Even the plan numbers 138/238 sound similar to Maxis old postpaid plans 10 years ago. What it offers nearly doubles of Maxis’s offering in terms of Data, bundled SMS and MMS.
If paying up front for the phone is too heavy, DiGi also has EPP plans for the iPhone that breaks it up in month installments.

Please take note that official price plans are only officially released tomorrow and may subject to last minute changes by DiGi.

Update: DiGi iPhone 3GS Price Plans leaked!
Those who pre-register for an iPhone from DiGi earlier should be receiving an email from DiGi soon.
The collection should be starting this coming weekend and also depending on the pick-up point selected in the registration.
There will be special payment plans will be available for Maybank, CIMB Bank, HSBC, Citibank and Ambank credit card holders.
If purchase is made by cash outright, the iPhone prices as follows:
Outright purchase price is similar to Maxis however what we’re anticipated is the iPhone + postpaid bundle plans which is expected to be announced tomorrow.

DiGi has started pre-ordering of the iPhone 3G. Options available are iPhone 3G with 8GB and iPhone 3GS with 16GB and 32GB capacities.
Pick-up locations are currently limited to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu only. Actual pricing and plans are not available yet. It is also good to know that this pre-ordering is also open to non-DiGi customers however one would require to sign up for one upon collection.
We believe DiGi is trying to find out how many people are willing to prebook by asking more details from protential customers. Let’s hope that DiGi will be able to release iPhone stock in a shorter timeframe compared to Maxis.
Click here to pre-order yours now. Remember, this is only until 18th March 2010.
