Earlier on, HTC has announced 2 Facebook phones, the HTC Salsa and HTC Chacha. Now, it appears that one of them is already here in Malaysia but offered as a contest prize for DiGi’s FB SMS Contest to promote its Facebook SMS Alert and Update service.
Just a recap on the device, the HTC Salsa is an Android device with a dedicated Facebook button at the front. Being a Facebook-centric device, the Salsa is expected to have Facebook deeply integrated into the OS which we think is already a standard in most HTC devices. You can read up more on these Facebook devices in our previous post here.
If you’re interested in winning one, all you need to do is subscribe to DiGi’s FB SMS Service from now until 31st July and send at least 3 FB updates. To subscribe, just sms “FB” to 2325. They are giving away 2 units each week throughout the contest period. According to their FAQ, the winner is picked based on the top 2 users with the most FB status sent for that week.
For more info on the contest, visit DiGi’s FB SMS Contest.

Update: Facebook Zero might be chargable if you have different settings. Read all about it here.
DiGi Facebook Zero is officially launched by DiGi today. As mentioned in the previous post, DiGi users can access Facebook for Free via 0.facebook.com.
You’ll notice at the top that there’s a header “Free Access by DiGi”. This is perfect for those without any data plan to stay connected to Facebook absolutely free. Of course, you won’t get any images as normally shown on m.facebook.com.
Not groundbreaking but yet it is a commendable feature from DiGi to be the first telco in Malaysia to offer such free feature.
Check it out on your mobile at 0.facebook.com for DiGi customers.
More details here.

Recently Facebook just announced Facebook Zero or better known for 0.facebook.com. This basically is a lightweight text only version of Facebook which aims to allow Free access to mobile users on supported telcos. It was launched with more than 50 telcos worldwide.
Lowyat has reported that DiGi too is in the running to implement Facebook Zero. Once this is implemented, DiGi users can access Facebook for free with this light version. Free Facebook access, who would complain? We tried now with our DiGi SIM but the site says that our current network is not supported yet. There was even a tweet from @digi_telco cautioned that those trying the site may incur some data charges.
Let’s hope this will come true soon even if it means DiGi willing enough to sacrifice some of its revenue on its Facebook SMS Service.
Of course, there are some limitation as no photos and external links will be charged separately.

DiGi is now tapping into the social networking market by introducing Facebook SMS service. Similar to DiGi’s Twitter SMS service that was launched not too long ago, you can get your Facebook Notification/Alerts via SMS for only RM1 per week.
In addition, you can perform Facebook updates such as posting new status, view upcoming events, get user profile, IM and much more for 10 sen per SMS request.
To subscribe for the Facebook Alerts, send FB to 2325. You will receive a code via SMS which you’ll need to key into Facebook’s Account Settings > Mobile page.

Along with the DG Smart Plan, DiGi has released its latest commercial and we have to say, we’re a bit dissapointed. But still it made us look.
It doesn’t pull on our hearstrings as much as the previous DiGi Prepaid So Easy ad. That one had a mixutre of a catchy jingle and a creative cinematography with serious special effects to grab our attention.
Oh well…
So what’s unique about this new TVC? It first made its debut on DiGi’s social networking channels on Facebook and YouTube. That by itself is a conversation starter.
We’ll have a comprehensive look at the DG Smart Plan soon. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, check out the commercial after the jump and let us know what you think.

We revealed behind the scene snaps of DiGi’s upcoming TVC posted up on the telco’s Facebook page. Today via Twitter, DiGi release a 15 second video of the TVC shoot.
It looks kinda freaky but we’re still pretty stoked about this TVC and can’t wait for it to air.
Funny thing is, DiGi says that the TVC will premier on their official Facebook page and YouTube channel on 13 April. We’ve got our eyes glued on both and see nothing other than the 15 second making of video.
What gives DiGi?
Check out the video after the jump.

DiGi gave us a behind the scene look at what their marcomms team is currently working on.
It looks like a new TV commercial and if the pictures are anything to go by, we are definitely looking forward to this new commercial. The thing that’s getting us all excited about this new commercial is there are various references to competitors – that’s going to be fun to watch.
If DiGi maintains the production standard of previous commercial DiGi Prepaid – So Easy commercial, it is a commercial that we’d want to watch.
Hop on over to DiGi’s facebook page to view the new commercial shoot picture gallery. Also, take a look at the So Easy commercial after the jump.
