In Malaysia, our high end smart phones are mostly in touch screen candy-bar form while flip/clam shell phones are long history. In China, things are a little different there and Samsung has introduced a new Android flip phone which comes with dual-core processor, dual sim slots and dual Super AMOLED screens. The device in question is Samsung’s W999 which is expected to go on sale in China in early 2012.

It runs on 1.2GHz dual-core processor, comes with 16GB internal storage and it is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Normally flip phones are light and compact but the W999 weighs massive 206 grams. That’s even heavier than most QWERTY keyboard slider smart phones out there.

At the back, there’s a 5MP camera which supports 720p HD video shooting at 30 fps and the cover is said to be made out of Hydraskin texture plastic which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Juicing up the dual-screen device is a 1500mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, it supports both CDMA and GSM however 3G is limited to EVDO. This means you’ll get GPRS on GSM network.

Flip phones were trendy about 10 years ago with the likes of Motorola StarTAC/RAZR, Samsung A200 and Panasonic GD88. Just recently BlackBerry has also introduced a clamshell BlackBerry Style for CDMA networks in the US. What do you think if smart phone players could bring flip phones back in fashion again? Let us know in the comments below.

More photos after the break.

When the early photos of China’s Motorola RAZR had appeared, it was a bit of a laugh. It was bigger and the rounded corners made it looked less compelling.

Now more information had surfaced on China’s offering and they are having not one but 2 different RAZRs. The first phone you see above is a CDMA2000 version which loses the Kevlar woven pattern with a subtle back finish. Over at the upper end of the back, you’ll notice that this RAZR has a higher 13MP Camera with dual LED flash. As comparison, the GSM RAZR we get here is a 8MP shooter. There’s also a Dolby Digital Plus marking too which indicates enhanced audio.

The device in the middle is the TD-SCDMA version which we have seen earlier. It also has a higher pixel-count camera at 13MP with assisted dual LED flash. It does look bulkier as it has a larger 4.5″ screen at the front which is also said to be supporting 1280×720 pixels. Despite the larger dimensions, the TD-SCDMA unit is only thicker by 1mm. There’s no word on the actual internal specs but there might be a bump on processor and internal storage.

On the left is the international version of the Motorola RAZR that the rest of the world is getting and on the right is the version that’s heading for China.

Specs are virtually the same except that the Chinese version adds support for TD-SCDMA radio. Other than that, you get the same Kevlar back panel, 8MP rear camera and 4.3-inch AMOLED qHD display, but man does the Chinese version of the RAZR looks ugly! It really does look like a cheap knock-off of the oh-so-sexy RAZR that we’re getting. And despite the Chinese version having the same ultra-thin 7.1mm body, the redesign makes it look fatter.

The best part, it is unknown why Motorola made the move to change the design of the RAZR considerably for China.

One more comparison picture after the jump.

China is awesome. Some enterprising manufacturer decided it would be a great idea to counterfeit the Nokia N9 and endow it features not available in the original.

This US$64 Nokia N9 knockoff certainly looks like the real deal. Available in four colours — pink, blue, green or black – the fake N9 packs dual full-sized SIM card slots and runs on a proprietary mutant OS that looks like a mish-mash of almost every mobile OS and UI under the sun. There are hints of Meego, iOS, HTC Sense, Symbian, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry, and Samsung’s TouchWiz in this bad boy.

Other details like the processor and RAM are unknown but you get a 3.8-inch touchscreen pushing out lowly 240×400 pixel resolution (what? You were expecting the glorious CBD panel that you get in the real N9?) – and 1.3MP sensors for both the front and rear cameras. There’s also a microSD card slot, Bluetooth and FM radio.

On top of that, the camera can do 5fps burst mode and you get popular games like Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja and Real Racing all running on Java(!)

We’re pretty sure some of you are probably thinking, “RM200 for this almost real looking N9 fake, why not”.

For loads for pictures, head on over to after the jump.

China is a funny place. When the WiFi version of the iPad 2 was launched, teenagers sold off their vital organs just to raise enough money to get one. At launch day, crazed Apple fans (as well as scalpers) took frenzied buying to a whole new level over there when they beat each other up just to get the iPad 2.

Just recently, the 3G version of the iPad 2 was launched in China and judging from what happened during the WiFi version launch its pretty safe to assume that the masses will come back for another session of frenzied buying. Well as it turns out, this time around, on one in China gave a damn about the 3G version of the iPad 2.

Apple flagship stores in Shanghai and Beijing geared up with long line barricades and ramped-up in-store security expecting even more people to stand in line for the iPad 2 3G. This was not the case. In fact, no one came to buy a 3G iPad 2.

It was quite frankly one of the worst product launches we’ve ever seen. The main reason for this catastrophic failure is because the 3G iPad 2 is already on sale in neighboring Hong Kong and other Asian countries. And because of the rampant smuggling of Apple products into China, those who wanted the device would have already gotten it from unofficial sources. On top of that the 3G version is ridiculously expensive at US$721 for a 16GB version and it is apparently un-Jailbreakable at the moment.

China is a funny place, ain’t it?

Hit up the source link for a full recap on what went down in China during the iPad 2 3G launch. More surreal pictures of empty Apple Store fronts after the jump.

While the iPhone 5 launch and design is still up in the air, China has what it seems to be a fake version of the upcoming phone. There’s no way to confirm whether this is the final iPhone 5 design but it is not surprising that the mainland Chinese are capable of doing stuff ahead of the real thing.

Previously before the iPad 2 was launched, China has already started manufacturing cases that fits the actual device which comes with necessary ducts and holes for buttons, camera and speakers. The fake device shown above looks pretty good and has a thickness of 7mm, a larger display and a bigger home button.

A few days back, cases that claims to be compatible for the iPhone 5 had surfaced and it does resemble closely to the device shown here. Could this be it? If it is, it sure does look good.

What do you think? More pics after the break.

Weird shit happens in China and this is one of a lot more, we’re sure.

A 17-year old boy sold off one of his kidney for money to buy an iPad 2. Desperately wanting to get the Apple tablet, the boy found out that he could get as much as RM9,300 for a kidney, and so he did. Without his mother knowing.

The mother of the boy realised that something was amiss when the boy returned after have been missing for three days with an iPad 2 and apparently an iPhone as well.

A kidney for an iPad, yeah, that is a good deal. NOT!

This is not even funny. Its frigging ridiculous. Earlier, a few people were seriously injured as a scuffle broke out at an Apple Store in China when the iPad 2 was launched last month.

Materialism is so rampant in China and morality almost non-existent. It’s a scary place. But don’t think we Malaysians are better off, remember the grandma who waited in line for her grandson?

And you thought it was bad here in Malaysia.

The iPad 2 was officially launched in China last week and the crazed Apple fans (as well as scalpers) took frenzied buying to a whole new level over there.

People in China are beating each other up to get the iPad 2. No one know what really happened but from the pictures alone, we can see that it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

Apparently a number of people got hurt at an Apple retail store in Beijing where it was believed there was a confrontation between iPad 2 customers and store employees. It was so bad that the Apple Store was forced to temporarily close on Saturday last week after situation got out of hand. Sources say four people were injured and taken to the hospital and a glass door at the store said to have cost US$46,000 was broken.

Interestingly, the first iPad 2 owner in China is a 50 year-old lady. Not sure if she is a grandma but it sure heats up the debate as to whether this other grandma actually stood in line to buy an iPad 2 for her grandson or for herself.

Remember the Meizu M9? The Android 2.2 smart phone with a Sharp developed ASV display technology to rival the iPhone 4′s Retina Display caused quite a sensation in China with huge masses of people standing in line to purchase the device when it was launched. Now those of you who are interested to get one here can and here’s how.

A Hong Kong online retailer DealExtreme has started offering pre-orders of the Meizu M9 which opens an opportunity for us Malaysians to buy it thru them. There’s no guaranteed availability date and there’s a note mentioning that due to shortages, they can’t guarantee delivery time. DealExtreme normally offers free shipping worldwide for those who wait but at $449 or about RM1377, we suggest you take up a premium shipping for greater peace of mind.

Specwise, it is written as powered by a Samsung Galaxy S’s 1GHz processor with PowerVR SGX540 GPU and it comes with 8GB Storage on board. Official specs are available here.

If you’re interested, head to DealExtreme Meizu 9 product page.

Just look at that. These people are not coming by the droves for the latest iDevice they are in fact standing in line to get the latest China-made Android device — the Meizu M9. Yeap, we can’t believe it either but it is definitely an awesome sight.

Unlike Apple’s usual limit of two or three purchases per customer at launch of a hot device, Miezu retailers set no such limit. All these people standing in line are allowed to but as many Meizu M9s as they like.

The Meizu M9 runs a skinned Android 2.2 powered by a 1GHz processor. It also features a 3.5-inch 960×640 using Sharp’s ASV display technology which reported offers performance and clarity that rivals the iPhone 4‘s Retina Display which has the same pixel count.

Wonder if CSL will be able to launch something that will garner the same level of fandom here in Malaysia?

Head on to after the jump for more epic human line pictures and a video presentation of the Meizu M9
