The one year old LG Optimus 2X was the first Android dual-core smart phone to hit Malaysia. In terms of software, LG has been trying to keep its devices up to date with the latest version and so far it is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Earlier on, LG was expected to roll out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2 this year. However based on the latest update, it looks like LG users might need to wait for another quarter in Q3 and we hope this is finally the real deal. Other devices expected to be upgraded include the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D & LG Prada.
Thanks @baliriot for the alert.

UPDATE: Added BlackBerry Bold 9900 into the comparison.
In our previous Samsung Galaxy S III spec comparison, we compared it with its direct rival the HTC One X and its former Galaxy predecessors. Now we are comparing it with the rest of the notable flagship models including the Sony Xperia S, Huawei Ascend D Quad, iPhone 4S and the Nokia Lumia 900.
With the Xperia S in the picture, Sony is in the lead for having the highest pixel density for squeezing 1280×720 pixels display into a compact 4.3″ screen. In terms of camera, it is the highest among the lot at 12MP. However it is one of the thicker and heavier models of the lot. In our review, the Xperia S performs admirably well despite being a dual-core processor and we appreciate the polished interface it has to offer.
Huawei too is going quad core with its Ascend D Quad which is expected to be released in mid 2012. It uses its in-house K3V2 processor which is clocked either at 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz. It is one of the smaller quad-core phones with a 4.5″ screen that has better pixel density at 326ppi. For those that feel 4.7″ or 4.8″ is too big in the hands might find the Ascend D Quad as a more comfortable choice.
In terms of cloud storage, it is worth pointing out that both Apple & Microsoft are bundling their own storage in the form of iCloud and SkyDrive. Overall, looking at all flagship devices launched this year, all of them are on the Micro-SIM bandwagon. So for those who are still using a standard SIM format, you are likely to convert/cut your SIMs if you’re getting a new high end phone soon.
Yes today has finally launched its long awaited 4G Android smart phone that comes with dual-mode (4G WiMAX/3G SIM) capabilities. It retails for RM1,688 outright and comes bundled with 3 plan options of 3 plans on offer at RM88, RM138 & RM238 monthly.
The eclipse can be yours for free with 24 months bundling of eclipse 238 plan that comes with 7GB of data, free calls/SMS within Yes network and 1000 free SMS/minutes of voice calls. Interesting to note that they are offering the new slim Huddle XS 4G hotspot for RM400 with the bundled offer. The huddle XS is going for RM480 outright or RM80 when bundled with 24 months contract of Yes Postpaid plan. More details of the huddle XS here.

In terms of specs, it runs on a single core 1GHz Qualcomm processor with 512MB RAM and 2GB of ROM. Over at the front you get a 4.1″ WVGA display with a front facing VGA camera. At the back it comes with a 5MP camera with assisted LED flash and it is powered with a 1,500mAh battery. The eclipse runs on a rather dated Android 2.2 Froyo. In addition to your standard Android features, the eclipse can support 4 way video calls and 6 way audio calls over Yes’s 4G network. Being a dual-mode device, you can stay connected or make calls via your regular 3G SIM where Yes’s 4G network is out of reach.
More info on the Yes Eclipse here.
Head after the break for the introductory video of the Yes Eclipse phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S Advance that retails for RM1,299 is now available for contract bundling on Celcom. As usual, you have a choice of 3 plans with 12 and 18 months duration.
On the highest plan Celcom Exec 250, it goes as low as RM598 with 18 months contract. For those that want to commit less, it can be yours for RM978 with 12 months contract of Celcom Exec 50 with 1GB of data.
To recap on the specs, the Galaxy S Advance is dual-core 1GHz Android smart phone with a 4.0″ Super AMOLED display & 768MB of RAM. According to Celcom’s website, the S Advance comes with a 16GB built-in storage while the earlier press release from Samsung Malaysia mentions 8GB. Storage is also expandable via microSD.
For more information, head over to Celcom.
UPDATE 2: Yes Eclipse 4G Smart Phone launched at RM1,688. Read more about it here.
UPDATE 1: Unconfirmed pricing of the Eclipse is RM1,680 outright. The phone is said to be offered for free with a 24-months contract. Monthly pricing for this plan is not yet known. If the pricing is indeed true, the Eclipse is way overpriced for its specification considering that you can get a current dual-core Android for the same amount of money or even less. The Eclipse is looking to be a device that will easily Eclipsed by its peers.

A new Sony mobile device has made an early appearance, rumoured as the entry level Sony ST21i that carries the codename “Tapioca”.
The device is said to carry a Qualcomm MSM7227 800MHz processor, 3.2″ HVGA display (320×480), 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. In terms of design, it does have an elevated display design like the Xperia Sola but we won’t expect it to come with the Floating Touch feature.
One more shot of the device next to a Sony Xperia S after the break.

The 5.3″ Samsung Galaxy Note is now more affordable with its pricing now slashed from RM2,299 to RM1,999. This is a rather hefty RM300 reduction and could be an indication that its next Galaxy S III flagship device would be coming very soon.
In terms of telco offering, Maxis, DiGi, & Celcom has revised its bundled pricing respectively. If you’ve been eyeing for a extra large device that’s perfect for scribbling or watching movies on the go, now probably is a good time to get one.
