Tune Talk Prepaid is doing some good deeds during Ramadhan. A portion of all top ups will be contributed to possibly a charity of your choice. You’ll still be getting your full top up value while Tune Talk pledge extra for every top up made.

The charity organisation that they will be contributed is nominated by Tune Talk customers. Just SMS the name of your charity of choice to 7292 which is chargable at 10 sen each. This drive will run from 24th August until 5th September 2010. The top 5 nominated charities by 11th September will get the funds.

There’s no exact percentage that Tune Talk is going to give to charity as its written at their sole discretion on the T&Cs.

  • TuneTalk extends RM50 top up prepaid validity period

Posted on August 9th, 2010 ccsoya No comments

Some good news for all you TuneTalkers out there but unfortunately folks the prepaid validity extension is only for RM50 top up denomination.

Previously topping up RM50 on TuneTalk gives you 55 days of validity now the same top up amount gives you 75 days.

The new validity period does give extra value for big money toppers but TuneTalk’s grace period (this is how long you have after your validity expires to top up before your account is terminated) is amongst the shortest in the market today.

  • TuneTalk celebrates 1 Million subscribers, offers free calls

Posted on June 18th, 2010 soyacincau 2 comments

Barely a year since launch, Tune Talk has announced its 1 million subscriber base. Quite an impressive feat considering it is a young MVNO. They have even created a cheap looking ad citing the lack of funds as they’ve focus their efforts and expenditure in creating the best low cost mobile operator.

In conjunction with this milestone, TuneTalk is offering FREE calls which we believed is free only within TuneTalk network as announced over twitter. TuneTalk is also running a contest that gives free trip to London for 2 for the highest top up user.

  • Tune Talk CEO jumps out of a helicopter

Posted on June 12th, 2010 ccsoya 2 comments

(UPDATE 2003hrs 12062010) Tune Talk has just uploaded of Jason’s jump here.

No, it’s not a suicide attempt but apparently Jason Lo, the CEO of Tune Talk lost a World Cup bet.

He bet that if South Africa didn’t win by three goals he will jump out of a helicopter – with a parachute of course. By now, you would’ve already known that the Bafana Bafana were out of luck, ending their opening game with a draw with the Mexicans.

Lo lost the bet and made the jump today.

What surprised us was the fact the he didn’t do a tandem jump but instead did a solo. Usually, first time jumpers are tied to their instructors in what is called a tandem jump. So for Jason to do his first jump solo is a big deal.

Now we’re wondering if he’s a veteran jumper. If he is then, the bet is off because it’d be a piece of cake for him.

Are you a veteran jumper Jason?

  • Tune Talk looking to offer roaming services in Singapore

Posted on May 6th, 2010 ccsoya No comments

Budget MVNO Tune Talk is looking to offer its subscribers more cost effective roaming services to Singapore as early as the third quarter of this year.

Once available, Tune Talk’s subscribers travelling to Singapore will be able to roam using their existing prepaid cards. Interestingly, the customers will be charged local Singapore call rates.

Tune Talk CEO, Jason Lo said under its current MVNO arrangement with Celcom, Tune Talk customers can roam in Singapore but it rides on whatever roaming arrangement Celcom has with Singapore operators.

Jason said in an announcement Thursday that Tune Talk is “trying to by-pass the current roaming platform and link up with a Singapore telco“. Jason added that Tune Talk is in talks “with a company” in Singapore at the moment and “hope to conclude the deal soon“.

According to Jason, the cheapest Singapore call rate currently is about S$0.08/min or about RM0.18/min.

At the same time, Tune Talk is also eyeing to offer a simillar roaming arrangment to Indonesia early next year and aims to enter into three other countries in the next 12 months.

Jason said Tune Talk plans to be in all the Asean countries in five years.

As it stands, Tune Talk has about 860,000 activations and hopes to hit one million activations next month.

Tune Talk offers the lowest prepaid flat call rate in the country at 16 sen per minute to any domestic operator.

For your information, a roaming call from Singapore with Tune Talk costs a whopping RM5/min! Picking up incoming calls will cost you RM2/min. SMS is RM2/sms. Whoa!

Posted on April 1st, 2010 soyacincau 1 comment

TuneTalk, famous for its simple call rate of 22 sen/min to all numbers at anytime, anywhere in Malaysia has just gone lower at only 16 sen/minute!

The announcement made live on their twitter account @TuneTalk at 12:00AM which we believe marks its effective date. At time of this post, their website still maintains the 22 sen/minute rate.

SMS rate is still maintained at 5sen/sms as indicated on their revised TuneTalk twitter page wallpaper.

Let’s hope this is not an April fool joke. :)
