DiGi DG Smart Plan Blackberry Promotion
Posted on August 21st, 2010 No comments
DiGi is throwing a special deal on Blackberry Bold and Curve which is actually a repeat of what was offered at PC Fair II 2010.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 can be yours for only RM1199 or the BlackBerry Curve 8520 for only RM459. These prices are applicable with a 24 month contract on DG Smart Plan. Just like the PC Fair promo, the first 6 months subscription is offered at RM28/month instead of the usual RM68/month.
So how much do you save? From the offer, you’ll save additional RM100 from the usual DG Smart Plan 24 months BlackBerry contract price. On top of that, you save a further RM40x6 months off your subscription. That’s a total of RM340 savings.
If you missed the PC Fair Offer, this is your chance again but you would need to catch them at their roadshow at Lowyat Plaza until 29th August.
On their Facebook page, the offer is offered at:
1. Lowyat Plaza Boulevard
2. Sungai Wang Plaza (DiGi Specialised Store)
3. Lowyat Plaza Concourse
4. Carrefour Kepong

HTC Aria introduced in Malaysia, coming to DiGi
Posted on August 18th, 2010 2 comments
HTC today has announced the arrival of HTC Aria, a new addition to its line up of Android devices. It was first revealed as an AT&T exclusive device in the US and now it has finally arrived in Malaysia. This joins the recent Android offering of HTC Wildfire, Legend and Desire.
The HTC Aria’s specification is quite identical with the slightly older HTC Legend. It features a 3.2″ touch screen with a decent 320×480 HVGA resolution but there’s no mention if it is using SLCD or AMOLED. It is also powered with a 600MHz processor, 512MB of ROM and 384MB of RAM. For expandable storage it comes with removable microSD slot. The HTC Aria comes bundled with a 2GB microSD in the box.
The rest of the bells and whistles are standard such as Internal GPS, G-Sensor, 5.0MP Camera, 3G with HSPA support up to 7.2Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support. The OS installed is Android 2.1 Eclair with our favourite HTC Sense.
Strangely, the HTC Aria uses a smaller 1200mAh Lithium-Ion battery which is lower than the 1300mAh version used on the HTC Wildfire and Legend. So in a nutshell, this looks like a HTC Legend with a new design and a lower capacity battery.
The HTC Aria will retail at RM1799 at participating dealers and it will also be made available at DiGi Centres & Specialised stores in early September 2010. No bundling details have been revealed and we believe this will be similar to DiGi’s HTC Legend bundling on DG Smart Plan.
You can get more details on the HTC Aria here.

DiGi Prepaid Internet Unlimited 15
Posted on August 16th, 2010 1 comment
Earlier this month, DiGi has introduced a bigger mobile internet package for its prepaid users called Internet Unlimited 15. What it offers is unlimited mobile internet for RM15/week with 250MB of data quota. This is perfect for those who think DiGi Prepaid max RM5/day for internet is too costly and would like to save more in the long run. For RM15 a week, that’s only a mere RM2.15/day which is pretty reasonable if you just need to stay connected with light usage. Since this is DiGi Prepaid, the download speed is only 384kbps with no options or package that offer anything faster.
Apart from the rates, you would need to take note on the data quota. Max RM5/day gives you 100MB daily while RM15/week gives you 250MB for the entire 7 days. Which plan that suits you depends on your data consumption. However it is good to know that DiGi does not charge extra if you exceed your usage as it will be throttled down to 128kbps download.
To subscribe, just call *116# to activate the service. The subscription is self renewing so you don’t have to reactivate again after 7 days. If you’re just needing it for a week, you will need to deactivate manually.
For more info, check out the Internet Unlimited 15 page.

iPhone 4 on Maxis. Our predictions revised
Posted on August 10th, 2010 No comments
Ok, we’ll admit it. It looks like we’ve gotten the launch data of the iPhone 4 in Malaysia slightly off. We predicted earlier that the launch has to before puasa month but that is definitely not going to happen.
So when can we expect the iPhone 4 to come to Malaysia officially? Maxis have been dropping clues on Facebook and Twitter saying that the launch is very soon. In fact Maxis via Facebook have mention that it will be August or September.
We’re still banking on an August launch. Reason being, it appears that Maxis is gearing up for a launch very soon. Today Maxis just sent out EDMs to those who have registered their interest to purchase the iPhone 4 online saying that the device “will be arriving in Maxis stores very soon”.
They won’t just send emails out like this for no reason. EMDs cost money ok. So we have a feeling Maxis is working on a launch within this few weeks.
At the same time, we’re keepinga very close eye on DiGi, they’ve been quite but that doesn’t mean that they’re on idle mode. Could the pull a fast one over Maxis and launch the iPhone 4 earlier? Could be but Apple may want bost telcos to launch the iPhone at the same time.
What do you think?

DiGi Prepaid Internet + Modem Bundle Promotion
Posted on August 9th, 2010 No comments
DiGi is throwing a promotion for its DiGi Prepaid broadband on its online store. They are bundling a DiGi Prepaid starter pack and a Huawei E1550 USB Modem for RM169. The modem comes with 18 months warranty.
For the first 100 people who order online via Paypal, DiGi is giving additional RM70 rebate which is refunded back to your paypal account. This makes the bundle worth RM99 which is quite a steal. The refund will take about a month for them to process.
On the prepaid internet plan, the starter kit worth RM25 comes with 5 days of usage worth RM10. This prepaid internet plan is one of the cheapest at RM2/day but it requires a minimum of RM10 top up. This means you would need to use it for 5 days straight.
The biggest problem for this plan is the speed which is limited at 384kbps download and 128kbps upload. There is no daily data quota mentioned but on its FAQ the Fair Use Policy is fixed at 3GB a month which is rather odd. DiGi should have tied the data quota based on the top up duration/denomination.
This is a tough one to recommend as 384kbps is rather slow for broadband use. It doesn’t even go well with its Turbo3G claim since it is no faster than standard 3G speeds. Perhaps DiGi should offer more flexible options such as U Mobile that offers various speed and data quota.

More iPhone 4 predictions for Maxis and DiGi
Posted on July 20th, 2010 1 comment
Ok so the official word is out, DiGi and Maxis have opened registration of interest for the iPhone 4 but little else has been revealed.
We don’t know the pricing, we don’t know the plans and we don’t know when will the iPhone 4 be available in stores.
But we know the industry enough to be able to put out some predictions that’s pretty accurate. Earlier we predicted that pre-order, or more accurately, registration of interest (ROI), will happen after 19 July and it did.
Now that the ROIs are out, we can with some degree of accuracy predict when the in-store dates for the iPhone 4 will be. It will be roughly two weeks from today. If you count the exact days that puts the iPhone 4 launch on 3 August. But we’re going to go slightly conservative on our prediction put the iPhone 4 launch sometime within the week starting 2 August.

BREAKING: DiGi opens pre-order for iPhone 4
Posted on July 20th, 2010 9 comments
Well, well what do you know, DiGi silently with no fuss beat Maxis to the announcement.
Yes people, DiGi is the first telco in Malaysia to offer
pre-ordersregistration of interest for the flawed iPhone 4.It also turns out that our predictions on the pre-order date is correct but we got the telco completely wrong. We predicted earlier that Maxis will open pre-orders for the iPhone 4 sometime this week. It turns out DiGi quietly beat them to it.
No launch date has been released but if our predictions are true, Malaysians could be officially getting their iPhone 4s early in August. We wonder if DiGi’s move is actually a pre-emptive strike to defuse something that Maxis is planing to announce soon?
We still have a feeling that Maxis will announce something about the iPhone 4 soon.
Head on over to DiGi’s iPhone pre-order page for details
