UPDATE: Sony Xperia U price revealed at RM899.
Sony is expected to roll out its Xperia U, P & sola smart phones in Malaysia pretty soon. Almost 2 months since the Xperia S was launched, Sony has yet to reveal the rest of its NXT series.
The Xperia U & sola is already on sale in Hong Kong & Taiwan. The Xperia U is sold at about RM990 and the Xperia sola at RM1180 over there and if priced similarly here, it will be one of the hottest mid-tier dual-core smart phones to look out for.
No exact pricing and dates were given but we believe all 3 should be here by end of May. Local retailer IMCC has already start teasing the Xperia U’s availability which is likely to go on sale first.

Ever wondered how the Sony Xperia S is being put together? A Chinese site, XDA.CN had posted a step by step disassembly guide of the Xperia S from start to finish.
The tear down looks easy with a couple of screws that’s colour coded. The inner back cover houses the NFC module that’s connected by a ribbon cable. The battery inside looks like a standard Sony Ericsson which is reported to be easily replaced.
Head after the break for some photos and disassembly video.

Earlier on we’ve seen some sample pics of the upcoming Sony LT29i and now it was recently spotted in the wild. From the blurry pic, the new device codename “Hayabusa” seems to be utilising on-screen buttons just like the Galaxy Nexus.
According to XperiaBlog, the LT29i will come with a 4.55″ screen pushing 1196×720, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor that could possibly be a Qualcomm S4 MSM8960 and a new improved 13MP camera. Other rumoured specs include a 16GB on board storage, microSD card support, 1GB of RAM, NFC, LTE and a 1,700mAh battery.
The LT29i is expected to be launched sometime in July with a higher price tag than the Xperia S.

A new Sony mobile device has made an early appearance, rumoured as the entry level Sony ST21i that carries the codename “Tapioca”.
The device is said to carry a Qualcomm MSM7227 800MHz processor, 3.2″ HVGA display (320×480), 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. It comes with a 1,460mAh battery with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installed. Spec and screensize wise, the ST21i is a model below the Xperia neo L which was announced recently with Ice Cream Sandwich installed. In terms of design, it does have an elevated display design like the Xperia Sola but we won’t expect it to come with the Floating Touch feature.
One more shot of the device next to a Sony Xperia S after the break.

The Sony SmartWatch is now available in Malaysia through an exclusive deal on Groupon. Priced at RM399, there’s no discount and if we are to believe the description, this is the only way to buy it right now.
The SmartWatch acts as a secondary screen for your Android smart phone where you can check who’s calling, text messages, social updates and even control your music. Not only does it support the latest Xperia S, it also supports previous Xperias including Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X8.
According to the full specs, it is also somewhat compatible with non-Sony Android phones such as HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire, Motorola Defy, Samsung Galaxy S II and Motorola RAZR.
The SmartWatch comes with a black colour watchband and each order comes with a Sony T-Shirt. If you’re interested, head over to Groupon.

Just as promised, Sony has started rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Xperia models launched in 2011. Currently the roll out has commenced with Xperia owners in the Nordic region.
Xperia Blog has posted a brief first impression of the update on the Xperia arc S. So far, according to them, their Xperia arc S doesn’t feel any faster or slower after the update.
Among the changes are quick dial, new recent apps viewer, quick response for incoming calls, improved email app and better monitoring & control over mobile data. To maintain an optimal user experience, they have included a Performance Assistant which lets you disable certain apps from running for better performance.
There’s the Cosmic Flow wallpaper that we’ve seen from the Xperia S but it isn’t the live version. To screen capture, it is no longer accessible with the power button. Instead it is now activated by pressing the power and volume down button together. Overall, while it brings up the version up a notch to 4.0.3, some features have to be disabled or watered down for a decent user experience. Obviously there’s no Face Unlock since the arc S lacks a front facing camera.
The next question is when will this roll out to the rest of the world and how long will it take for it to reach the latest Sony NXT Series line up.
The Sony Xperia S which was launched in January is Sony’s current flagship model with dual core 1.5GHz. With the competition gearing up for quad-core smart phones, Sony isn’t taking things lightly. The next flagship device from Sony dubbed “Hayabusa” has somehow made an public appearance on Picasa. The sample shots are nothing to shout about but the EXIF data reveals a much newer firmware than the current versions. This time, it better be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
In terms of specs, the LT29i is said to be running 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and comes with a 4″ and above display that pushes 1196×720 pixel resolution. The weird resolution hints the usage of on-screen capacitive buttons like the Galaxy Nexus.
Based on earlier leaked Sony launch schedule, the Hayabusa will be launched sometime in July with a higher price tag than the Xperia S. After which, another high end device is expected to appear in September with the working model name of ‘Mint 1′.

In the past 2 years, the Android smart phone players are getting obsessed with having the biggest screen, the most core processor and the thinnest dimensions. We are seeing more brands jumping onto the dual-core bandwagon with screens being upsized beyond the standard 4.3”, which was considered huge back then.
Sony which is formerly known as Sony Ericsson in particular hasn’t been keeping up with such trend with the former flagship the Xperia arc S running on a single core 1.4 Ghz processor and still having a moderate sized 4.2” display. Despite that, there’s still one thing that stands out from Sony, and it is the design of their phones.
Early this year, Sony has revealed its new Sony Xperia NXT series of handsets with the Xperia S. It was also the first Android smart phone under the new Sony Mobile branding, after Sony has acquired full ownership over Sony Ericsson. It is interesting to note that Sony retains its familiar “s & e” slimeball logo with the new brand.
After our early preview in Shanghai, we had the privilege of using the Sony Xperia S for a long term review. Read on to discover our findings.
Some Sony Xperia S users have reported a defect where there’s a noticeable discolouration or yellow tint appearing at the bottom of the screen. There’s a support thread on Sony’s official site on the issue and finally Sony has come out with an official response as below:
Sony Mobile Communications has identified that the display on a limited number of Xperia S smartphones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. This is limited to a small number of units and the cause of this has been corrected. Any consumer observing this slight yellow tint on the display of their Xperia S is welcome to contact their local customer service centre and Sony Mobile Communications will resolve this at no cost to the consumer.
Anyone having similar issue here in Malaysia? Sony claims that this affects a small group of users and it happens if the Xperia S is subjected to high temperatures above 40 degrees. Good to know that Sony acknowledges such problem and are willing to provide a solution.
