Update: It seems that we have offended a few Nokia N8 enthusiasts out there with our findings. In pursuit of the truth, we want to set the record straight, and so we have a proposition for the N8 enthusiasts who’ve expressed their opinions about this post. We have a proposition for you. Is the Nokia N8 still the best camera phone out there? Let’s settle this once and for all. Head on over to after the jump for details.

We’re just one week away from the launch of the iPhone 4S in Malaysia. Aside from an uprated processor that’s now dual-core and very chatty Siri, the biggest improvement on the new iPhone is its camera.
With a Sony-sourced 8MP backlit sensor and improved optics, Apple says the new camera on its latest iPhone offers performance that rivals most dedicated point-and-shoot cameras, but is this claim founded?
Naturally, we’re curious to find out ourselves if the camera on the iPhone 4S is as good as Apple claims it to be, and so we’ve assemble some of the best 8MP smartphone shooters we could get our hands on along with the 12MP Nokia N8 for good measure and went out on a photowalk; taking pictures and videos using these devices in various situations to find out which smartphone available in the market right now has the best camera overall.
We compare the iPhone 4S with the Samsung Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II, Motorola RAZR, Sony Ericsson Xperia ray and Nokia N8. Follow us to after the jump to see the sample shots and videos as well as our verdict on which smartphone has the best camera right now.
Whenever a phone comes out, there are consumers that asked if it comes with white. These days, white is the new trend and often phone manufacturers release a white version later to give that exclusive/limited bragging rights for those that have waited.
Now in the US, Verizon has announced the white colour Motorola Droid RAZR which is perfect for the Christmas season. Looking at the pic, it isn’t a fully “white” model as one would expect. The only thing that’s white is the bezel and the frame that covers the back. The rest looks pretty much the same as the black version including that sexy black kevlar. Personally we rather go black for the RAZR.
For us folks in Malaysia, no idea if Motorola is going to do the same for the GSM version Motorola RAZR.

Before we had the RAZR, Atrix and Defy, the Motorola Droid or known as the Motorola Milestone (GSM) here was an iconic android smart phone. After the first Milestone, there wasn’t really a high-end Motorola with a sliding keyboard in Malaysia. We had the Motorola Charm, Backflip and Flipout with QWERTY keyboards but came with mid-tier specs.
For those that are craving for a proper high-end Android smart phone with QWERTY keyboard, Motorola is about to release its 4th generation Droid. It features similar RAZR-like design, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.0″ qHD screen and a sliding 5 Row LED backlit keyboard. However unlike the Motorola RAZR, this QWERTY keyboard version has a back plate where it covers your microSD and micro SIM slots. This would be appealing for those that prefer to type on a proper keyboard instead of a capacitive screen.
With the sliding keyboard, it is thicker at 12.7mm and it weighs 178 grams. From the pics, it doesn’t get that sexy Kevlar back that’s found on the RAZR. The Droid 4, like the Droid RAZR is a 4G LTE smart phone which is exclusive to Verizon in the US. But hey, who knows they will release a “Milestone” version for GSM markets like Malaysia.

It seems to be raining tablets in Malaysia with massive offers and smaller sized tablets coming our way. The Motorola Xoom is now more attractive with another round of price cut. According to IMCC, the Motorola Xoom WiFi is now priced at RM1,399 while the Motorola Xoom WiFi + 3G version is going for RM1,599. That’s a massive price difference which is almost RM1,000 less from its launch price. This offer is valid from IMCC while stocks last.
Just to recap on the specs, both Motorola Xoom 3G and WiFi versions runs on a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of internal storage. Just recently Android 3.2 Honeycomb update has been rolled out to Xoom users which puts it up to date with other tablets out there.
If you’re looking for a better bargain for the Xoom, you might want to check out Maxis RM299 Xoom 3G offer which recently resumed.

Maxis is finally back in the device game with its latest Motorola RAZR bundle. The RAZR can be yours as low as RM999 on their latest 6GB data bundle which costs RM98/month with a 24 months contract.
As usual, the data package can be bundled with postpaid voice plan as low as RM30/month on Maxis Value First. For the least commitment, you can opt for 12 months contract that offers the RAZR at RM1,799 with a 500MB plan. Honestly this 500MB option isn’t really worth it as you could get it outright slightly under RM1900 if you looked hard enough.
Full plan options below:

Usually Maxis offers RM10/rebate on your data plans during the contract period but there’s a note that it isn’t applicable on the 6GB RM98/month option. As comparison, Celcom offers the RAZR from as low as RM1,308 on 18 months contract of Celcom Exec 250. For more information, head over to Maxis Android page.

We just found out that the front facing camera on the Galaxy Nexus shoots 720p HD videos and that made us wonder what other devices have front facing cameras that can do the same. Coincidentally we have with us the Motorola RAZR, the Samsung Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S II, and we set out to test all three devices.
And what we discovered surprised us.
The 1.3MP front facing camera on the Motorola RAZR can shoot 720p video as well and the quality is not bad either as you can see above.
Funny how both Google and Motorola mentioned nothing about this pretty amazing feature anywhere. We certainly didn’t hear about this at the launch of these devices and there’s no mention of this feature in the press release or official websites.
Anyway, the 720p HD video quality from the front camera on the RAZR is not bad actually, same goes with the Galaxy Nexus as well and both have 1.3MP sensors.
Whatever the reason, now you know that there are at least two Android phones in the market right now (yes we know, the Galaxy Nexus is not on sale in Malaysia yet. Still its on sale) that can do 720p HD videos with the front camera.
If you know of other phones that does this too, let us know in the comment section below. Also, head on over to after the jump to see a video demo of the Galaxy Nexus front camera doing 720p HD (skip all the way to min 3:24.
We won’t deny it, the Motorola RAZR is one device that we’re really looking forward to get our hands on. The RAZR is, undeniably, the most wonderfully designed smartphone right now, but is the RAZR’s beauty skin deep?
On paper, the RAZR certainly brings all the credentials to make it a top contender. The world’s slimmest smartphone features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor that’s based on the same Cortex-A9 core as the 1.2Ghz Exynos powered Samsung Galaxy S II, both devices have 1GB of RAM and also 8MP camera that shoots 1080p videos.
We’ve had a couple of days usage with the RAZR and in terms of performance, the device does feel like it can keep up with the Galaxy S II. Comparing them side by side, we dare say that the RAZR is just as fast as the galaxy S II, if not faster.
Indeed the RAZR has the performance to keep up with the leading Android smartphone in the world right now, there’s no denying that, but one of the key performance factors that is in the minds of many would be RAZR owner is the camera. How good is it? How does it compare with the Samsung Galaxy S II? All these questions have remained generally unanswered — until now.
Find out how the Motorola RAZR’s camera fair against the very capable shooters in the Samsung Galalxy S II and the Galaxy Note.
We’ll be frank, we’ve unboxed a lot of devices in our day but the RAZR has to be one device that we are eagerly looking forward to unboxing.
And we did it and the RAZR is every bit as delicious as we’d imagined it to be, but does the RAZR have the performance and capabilities to back up that beautiful design? We’ll answer that in a separate post. In the meantime, check out what comes in the box with the Motorola RAZR. Enjoy.
The rugged Motorola Defy+ smart phone with a IP67 rating now gets a tougher new edition. Motorola in the UK is releasing a JCB edition of the device which comes with a specially designed exterior case which improves its shock resistance capabilities.
Internally it is the same as the normal Defy+ with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and a 3.7″ WVGA display. In addition, the Defy+ JCB Edition will get a longer 2 years warranty as opposed to the usual 1 year. Pre-installed are some tool-man apps such as torch, therodolite, spirit level and even a decibel reader. It is priced at £268.80 outright with sales starting in early December in the UK.
This isn’t the first phone from the heavy machinery company as they have a range of rugged ToughPhones that are also IP67 certified. The Toughphone tradesman is the world’s first floating Phone while the Toughphone Pro-Talker even comes with a 2 way radio. Comparing the Defy+ and the Toughphone, the Motorola version is a lot smarter and better looking without compromising its rugged credentials.
