Samsung Galaxy Nexus: Celcom & DiGi Plans compared

Posted:  January 8, 2012   By: soyacincau   11 comments

UPDATE: Celcom finally reveals official Galaxy Nexus bundled plans. Details are the same however there’s no mention of RM60 rebate.

UPDATE 2: DiGi has made some drastic changes on their Galaxy Nexus offering. They no longer offer 12 months option and the offered device price is now RM1,999 with more rebates on the monthly subscription fee. Check out the latest comparison at the bottom of the post after the break.

Original Post Before 16th January
The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be officially available in Malaysia on Friday the 13th. DiGi has fired the first salvo by offering pre-orders ahead of launch from RM1399. Meanwhile Celcom too is expected to offer the Galaxy Nexus from as low as RM1368.

So what’s the difference between the 2? First is the contract duration where DiGi offers 12 & 24 months while Celcom offers 12 & 18 month options. Next is the subscription plan where both offerings are different.

On DiGi, the subscription fees are the lowest but that’s because it only comes with mobile internet data and calls & SMS are charged separately. This is perfect for those that hardly make much calls or SMS and rely greatly on mobile internet for communication with apps such as WhatsApp, FB Messenging and etc. For Celcom, all 3 plans on offer comes with bundled voice calls and SMS with its Celcom Exec plans.

So how much does it cost to own a Galaxy Nexus on these bundled plans? Read on for more.

Official renders of the white Galaxy Nexus break cover. Looks much better

Posted:  January 7, 2012   By: ccsoya   12 comments

When we posted news about the existence of the white Galaxy Nexus, we thought the picture didn’t look quite right. It looked too white for our liking.

Turns out, the earlier picture is not the final version that will be released to the public, the one you see here is. The major difference you can here is that the front panel is now all black which, in our opinion, looks much better. What do you think?

In any case, the white Galaxy Nexus is slated to be release in the UK only at the moment. There’s no word on whether it will make it here, but that’s not to say that it won’t. We have a feeling that if sales of the black version look promising, Samsung will consider bringing in this white version.

Speaking of sales, DiGi has already started taking pre-orders for the black Galaxy Nexus on its DiGi Store Online. Prices start at RM1,399 with 24 months contract. Orders will be delivered to customers starting January 13. Celcom will also be offering plans for the Galaxy Nexus, we have unconfirmed details here. Celcom will start sales on January 13 as well. For those of you who are wondering whether you can purchase the Galaxy Nexus outright without contract, the answer is yes you will be able to. Selected Samsung retailers will sell the device on the same day.

So what will it be? White or black?

DiGi Samsung Galaxy Nexus Plans revealed with immediate pre-order

Posted:  January 6, 2012   By: soyacincau   17 comments

DiGi has finally revealed its Samsung Galaxy Nexus pricing which is offered as low as RM1,399 with DG Smart Plan. Outright, the Galaxy Nexus with its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS is priced at RM2,099. The bundled pricing and contract options as follows:

DG Smart Plan 48 (12 months) – RM1,749
DG Smart Plan 48 (24 months) – RM1,549

DG Smart Plan 68 (12 months) – RM1,649
DG Smart Plan 68 (24 months) – RM1,399

If you opt for DiGi autobilling, they will rebate RM5/month. On 24 months contract of DiGi Smart Plan 68, there’s additional RM15/month which gives it a total savings of RM480 inclusive of auto-billing rebate. Upon signing up, there’s advance payment required which ranges from RM50-RM500 depending on plan and duration.

Just like what they did with the iPhone 4S, you can pre-order now and have it delivered to you by next Friday on 13th January 2012. This is the most assured way to secure a unit once it is officially available in Malaysia. The other telco offering it next Friday is Celcom but so far there’s no official announcement or pre-registration exercise.

Head over to the DG Online Store to order.

Singapore getting Galaxy Nexus in February will be more expensive too

Posted:  January 6, 2012   By: ccsoya   4 comments

Ehem…

The much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the next “Google phone” featuring the new Android 4.0 operating system, will only reach Singapore stores in February 2012, a month later than expected.

Samsung Singapore today said the units would be sold at S$948 (without contract), as it revealed earlier in November. However, the delay will not be good news for folks here who have been waiting for the latest and greatest from the Android camp.

The Galaxy Nexus will be more expensive in Singapore too — around RM2,300 at today’s exchange rate. If anyone needs reminding, Malaysian launch happening Friday next week :)

US gets super Galaxy Nexus with LTE and 1.5Ghz dual-core processor

Posted:  January 6, 2012   By: ccsoya   5 comments

First, the UK gets the white version, now the US gets a super Galaxy Nexus with LTE connectivity and an ultra-fast 1.5GHz dual-core processor while we’re stuck with just a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and HSPA+ connectivity. Ini tidak adil!

But apart from the faster processor and LTE connectivity, all the other specs in the pimped up Galaxy Nexus remains the same as the standard version.

Now, why can’t Yes offer a WiMAX version with uprated specs? Or perhaps when DiGi’s LTE network comes online, we will be able to get uprated devices like this One can certainly hope.

Yes and DiGi, you know what to do.

Galaxy Nexus in white makes an appearance. Not sure when coming to Malaysia

Posted:  January 5, 2012   By: ccsoya   No comments

Everyone’s into white devices nowadays. We see more white iPhones 4 and iPads 2 than the black ones. When the white Galaxy Note was introduced, many of you commented that it looked better than the dark blue one. Seeing that there are many pure white fans out there, Google and Samsung are making available the Galaxy Nexus in white as well.

The white Galaxy Nexus will be available in the UK this February. There’s no word on when the device will come to Malaysia. While it’s possible for Samsung to release both the black and white versions of the Galaxy Nexus in Malaysia come January 13, we don’t think this will happen.

But we reckon the white Galaxy Nexus will still come to Malaysia, it’s just a question of when. By the looks of things, it’ll probably be a couple of months after the black version officially launched here.

So which one will it be? Galaxy Nexus in white or black? Personally, we’d take the black version.

Galaxy Nexus to be available on both Celcom & DiGi

Posted:  December 31, 2011   By: soyacincau   17 comments

UPDATE: Unconfirmed Celcom Galaxy Nexus plans.

UPDATE 2: DiGi starts pre-order of Samsung Galaxy Nexus from RM1,399.

If you’re looking for bundle offer for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, you can now expect both DiGi & Celcom to offer the device at subsidised pricing with the usual plans like the Galaxy Note. As usual Maxis is still staying away from Android devices, except for its recent Motorola RAZR bundling.

So how much would the Galaxy Nexus go for on contract? Since the Galaxy Nexus is priced between the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note, we are expecting the contracted pricing as follows:

  • Celcom RM1150-RM1300 (on 18 months Celcom Exec 250)
  • DiGi RM1249-RM1399 (on 24 months DG Smart Plan 68)

Originally planned for December release, the Galaxy Nexus is currently slated on the 13th January, which is just 2 Fridays away. For those who can’t wait, you can get a Galaxy Nexus from grey importers for as low as RM2040.

DiGi to offer Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

Posted:  December 28, 2011   By: soyacincau   2 comments

The Galaxy Nexus is the one of the earliest gadgets to look out for in 2012. Samsung has hinted that it will be available in Malaysia just before Chinese New Year and we are seeing grey importers selling it just slightly above RM2000.

For those that prefer to buy their gadgets with contract, DiGi seems be to dropping some hints on the Galaxy Nexus from a little tweet of theirs. The recent mention of it does arouse some expectation that telco will be offering it soon.

Previously, the predecessor model Nexus S was offered by Maxis for an ridiculously high price of RM2499 outright. Today Maxis is throwing its Nexus S for a special price of just RM799 outright while stocks last. Hopefully DiGi will bundle the Galaxy Nexus more competitively.

So how’s the Galaxy Nexus? Check out our hands-on first impression and sample shots taken from its 5MP camera.

Galaxy Nexus going for RM2040 with free shipping

Posted:  December 25, 2011   By: soyacincau   6 comments

Still can’t wait to get a Galaxy Nexus? Now an online retailer is selling it for just RM2040.78 with free shipping within Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Obviously this is a grey import (AP unit) which they offer 1 year warranty.

They are also offering Easy Payment Plan that lets you purchase over 6 or 12 months installment from RM187/month. For those without credit card, there’s a Cash on Delivery option where you pay by cash upon delivery to your doorstep.

The price and payment options are very tempting but if you can wait, we would recommend getting the official Samsung Malaysia unit with full service & warranty support locally. The Galaxy Nexus go officially on sale in Malaysia in a couple of weeks time before Chinese New Year. Since an AP set is now going as low as RM2040, our earlier predicted price range of RM2000 and below is very likely.

With Christmas just a few days away, here’s a video from the Google Team giving some festive cheer. It has scenes from the Google campus with Android devices in action. Obviously the Galaxy Nexus is one of the stars in the video. If you didn’t notice, Youtube has a snow flakes effect button on the toolbar. Hit the button to enjoy animated flakes with your video.

Earlier this week, Apple has released an iPhone 4S ad starring Santa Claus.
