UPDATE: We have a new comparison for smartphones under RM600. Check it out here.

Getting a smartphone is usually a big decision. Unless money isn’t an object to you, this process will likely take a lot of notepad-pros-and-cons, weighing the features you need, the features you want and what you’re willing to spend on a smartphone before deciding.

That can be a lot of hard work, so we thought we’d do most of the hard work for you and list down some of the best smartphones under RM1,000 that you can buy officially in Malaysia.

Why RM1,000? It’s a sweet spot if you think about it. With how good cheap phones are getting and how cheap good phones have become, smartphones that hover around this price range can be absolutely great value for money. Plus, keeping your device expenditure within three figures is easier to justify to your bank account in the long run.

We took a look at several notable manufacturers who create some reasonably priced value-for-money handsets and picked their best with two important criteria:

1. It must have 4G LTE support

2. It must have at least 16GB of internal storage

Why these two? Well, it’s 2016 and if you’re going to be spending almost four figures on your device, it better be able to at least get you connected to the 4G LTE network your telcos are boasting about in all of their advertisements. For 16GB of internal storage, well, that’s pretty self-explanatory don’t you think?

Keeping that in mind, here are some of the best devices you can get for RM1,000 and be sure to head to the last page for our top 3 picks of what we would pick up ourselves if we had to spend RM1,000 on a smartphone.

We’ve also included a comparison table at the end of the post to help with comparing spec sheets.

Guys, Great Job. Up to RM1K phones are considered Entry Level and up to Mid Tier Units (on the Lower end)

How about another article on phones between RM1K to RM2K – for Mid Tier up to Low end of Flagships

asus zenfone selfie should be in the list.. with 3GB RAM plus 32GB Internal Storage with pricess less than 1k???

why is not in the list?

    soyacincau

We wanted to include the ZenFone Selfie but the official price is still RM1,049.

These are mostly 5.5 incher big phone, Redmi Note 3 pro should be the best when official available. The redmi3 should be in the list for smaller options. Huawei P8 Lite – rm899 are you sure is a good choice?

M.K

Redmi Note 3's price will be announced in less than a week. It will be the winner here

Have not seen Soyacincau publishing such a good comparison article in a very ling time. Budget smartphones needs more coverage from your blog as most of us will end up buying one of these after reading about RM4k top tier smartphones. Keep it up Soyacincau, we cant be reading only Porches and Ferraris, because Protons and Peroduas are what we will end up buying, and we need to know more about them although they are boring.

Hans

I would love to read an article on that, and Soyacincau better get it published soon, or there will be only one phone to be on top of the list: Mi5.

this is the stupiest post i've read today. WTF. If that's your concern, go buy a "halal" phone made in Arab or some third world countries.

Oh wait, there aren't any!!! All big brands aren't halal cuz they all freaking eat pork.

Yeah… Wiko Fever 3GB RAM/ 32GB Storage .. 4G LTE … 5.2" screen .. RRP RM799
The best entry level phone

najib1312

Meizu Mx4 should be in the list as well. It's better than the Meizu M2 note, and currently cost only RM700 for the 32GB version.

Any concern to put in a column with AnTuTu Benchmark for reference?

Guys, I've been reading user reviews about these phones in gsmarena. Although redmi note 3 and k4 note have good specs, but most comments complained about heating problems, laggings and battery life. I'm starting to doubt about these phones. Do you guys have any opinions? Thanks.

asus

Asus zenfone laser 2 5.5 inch ohsem.. only rm700++

HAR

Xiaomi good phone, but hard to get and have to wait forever….. company should plan bout this the production and should know how good in the market as plan and compare before like MI 3, Well ……

Hanif

Hi Soyacincau, will you update this post as there are many launching under rm1k phone that boast great specs in may and june. I'm looking for these specific spec: Best processor & GPU, 3gb ram, 32gb rom, 5'+ FHD display, 4G LTE, great battery life as bigger =/= efficiency. Camera/OTG/Fast charge/finger print is secondary for me.
At 1st I want to buy xiaomi RN3 Pro but Mi Malaysia is very bad, never got stock. Is there any other phone that can beat RN3 pro specs/performance wise under rm1k/+100 range? I'm also open for future launch phone in Malaysia.

    lol

Don't have your hopes up. I wrote a similar message asking them to update their lists by price on another post and they just deleted my comment. I doubt you will even read this before they delete it. Gonna screenshot this to be safe.

Ya, you are right, most probably some of the used and returned units will be sold as a new unit in market later, depending on your luck. Better get other brands / models or wait for note8. Good luck to all potential note7 buyers!
