Anti-iPhone video gets dude fired

Posted:  July 4, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

A dude form Best Buy in the US created this video about a customer that just wants to get an iPhone 4 because everybody else wants one. The video is very vulgar and the employers of the creator decided that he’s not the kind of person they want working in Best Buy anymore, so now apparently they are trying to fire him.

We don’t know if it’s out of frustration or he’s just trying be funny or if he’s just plain mean of if it’s all of the reasons combined but we don’t think he deserved what he got for producing this video. Plus whatever happened to freedom of speech? If we didn’t read reports that the video was made by a dude who works in Best Buy, we wouldn’t even make the connection. He should be able to keep his job.

In any case the video is a viral success, racking in close to a whopping 2.5 million views in less than 2 weeks. CGC FTW!

Speaking of the iPhone 4, what’s your take on the device? With all its antenna issue and what not, will you get it once it gets here? For us, the jury is still out. The Samsung Galaxy S with Android and Swype is a very enticing proposition for would be smartphone buyers.

Head on after the jump the see the video plus a bonus response video to the original.

Milestone beats Nexus One for most popular Android device

Posted:  July 4, 2010   By: ccsoya   3 comments

A monthly metrics report from mobile ad network, AdMob reveals the most popular Android phones currently on the market. Surprisingly Google’s flagship Nexus One is the least popular whilst Motorola Droid/Milestone tops the chart.

The findings was gathered from close to 13 million Android phones that are currently on the AdMob network in the month of May. This explains why some of the more recently released phones like the Samsung Galaxy S and the Droid X are not on the list while devices like the HTC Legend and HTC Desire are still trying to find traction against the other devices that have been in the market for a longer period like the HTC Hero which is currently sitting at the #2 on the popular Android phone list.

Currently, about 21% of Android phones being used are Motorola Droids/Miletones, while 16% of Android users own the old school HTC Hero. Alarmingly, Google’s Nexus One consist of only 2% of phones running Android. Hardly a fitting performance considering Google manufactured the Nexus One as a showcase of the perfect Android integration between software and hardware.

Apple issues open letter to explain antenna problem

Posted:  July 4, 2010   By: ccsoya   2 comments

Apple has issued an open letter to explain the reception degradation problem on the iPhone 4. But before they get to that, Apple is quick to point out that “Droid, Nokia and RIM phones” exhibit the same tendency to drop signals in a very much the same way the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 does.

From Apple’s point of view, the cause of the dramatic drop in signal performance is “both simple and surprising.” Apple claims that right now the software that determines how many signal bars are displayed on the iPhone is indicating an overly optimistic figure.

Essentially when the iPhone is showing 5 bars you are realistically getting only 2 or 3 bars. As a result, Apple will be releasing an update to fix this over-reading issue so that all iPhones will display a more accurate signal reception reading. On top of that, Apple will also make signal bars 1, 2 and 3 taller so that it is easier to see.

In the letter Apple says that the over-reading problem “…has been present since the original iPhone…” and the software fix will be available for all iPhones. At the same time Apple is accepting returns of undamaged iPhone 4 for a full refund if returned in 30 days from purchase.

Steve Jobs iPhone 4 Email Saga with BGR

Some of you might have read about a purported email between Steve Jobs and an irate customer. The customer was complaining about reception issues and Steve Jobs replied to him brushing it off as rumours and blamed it on his area with low signal.

Obviously not an acceptable reply, the customer then nicknamed “Tom” brought this up to BGR. BGR posted this up on their site which later spread like wildfire across the net.

This would make a perfect match for your solid gold iPad.

Made from rare and exclusive 200-year-old African Blackwood that the makers claim is a material with “incredible strength and durability“. This iPhone is the ulitmate in WTF! The standard chrome Apple logo is also replaced with a 18 carat gold emblem.

And for the ladies, there’s a version with a stylish sprinkling of Swarovski crystals just enough to make it pop.

Want one? Well even the ultra rich will have to wait as its only available in December.
