A group of bloggers we’re recently invited to a Nokia Insider’s Night to play some games running on Flash Lite for Nokia mobile phones developed by Breakdesign; and also to brief us on how the Ovi Store is doing in Malaysia.
First, a little bit about the Ovi Store. Nokia’s proprietary app store will be turning one in June and Nokia claims that it will be going big into the local with Bahasa Malaysia support and very soon, operator billing.
This means people using Nokia devices will be able to purchase apps via their device and pay for it through the operator that they’s subscribed to. This would make app purchases palatable for people who are a bit apprehensive when it comes to keying in their credit card details in Ovi Store itself.
Moving on to the Flash Lite games being showcased. Currently game apps are amongst the top three app categories most downloaded from the Ovi Store. With over 1.5 million apps being downloaded from the Ovi Store everyday, it’s pretty easy to see that there is a huge market for game apps. Breakdesigns are one of the Ovi Store’s leading game developers and are working closely with Nokia to promote Flash Lite games for Nokia devices.

The Malaysian Android invation is not letting up. The latest Android device to enter the market will be the HTC Desire and its happening this Thursday, May 27. We’ll be there to get you the latest so stay tune.
No word on pricing yet but we’ll do some educated guessing here. The Desire’s close relative the Google Nexus One is going for about SG$800 or around RM1900 official price. Grey imports in Malaysia are around RM2500. The HTC Legend retails for about RM2000.
Looking at this, its a safe bet that the desire will be priced above RM2000 probably very close to iPhone 3GS 16GB teritory. We expect to see subsidised plans for the phone at launch as well. More details on launch day.
By the way, Maxis is looking for 10 reviewers for the HTC Desire and is running a survey to find them. You can take the survey here.

While most android users are waiting for Android 2.2 to be officially available on their decides, Google’s very own Nexus One is getting it in a special way. Obviously a product from Google, the Nexus One is reported to have received the new Android 2.2 update OTA (Over the Air).
Nexus One users will be prompted a system alert in the notification tray prompting to download the new update. If you’re a Nexus One user, this update could be on the way to your device right now.
Now that is pretty convenient to step up to the latest Froyo and enjoy the vast improvements reported earlier. Will Android 2.2 Froyo be updated with the same manner for other device? Since HTC is the manufacturer for Nexus One, it would be the smart thing if all HTC handsets will receive the same OTA update as well.

The Velcro is a flexible fabric utility which lets you stick almost anything but yet offers easy removal. This too comes pretty handy with gadgets and check out this video where iPad + Velcro could give you endless possibilities where an iPad can be used.

Since Froyo, Android’s latest OS version is revealed, people have started asking, when will they get it on their phones? Android is popular of having variety of OS versions in such a short period of time which poses a problem when it comes to app compatibility. The pioneer Android users are often stuck on Android 1.6 and this limits the potential of what today’s Android could offer.
HTC in the other hand had sort of answered that question to Pocket-Lint that Android handsets released this year may be getting their Android 2.2 Froyo soon but perhaps in the 2nd half of this year. Not too bad if it can happen this year as many existing handsets are only getting their 2.1 updated by then.
Details are sketchy at this moment of time but potentially HTC Legend, Desire, Incredible and EVO 4G are likely models to get the update this year.
Obviously this is a great step of allowing existing users to have room for upgrade as it can be a big turn off for buyers who are in the market for an Android device. An official upgrade announcement from HTC will be most assuring.

We just got a little surprise from Google just couple of hours ago. Google is paying tribute to Pac Man which turned 30 today with a playable game of Pac Man for its logo. It comes with sound and you can control them with your cursor keys.
Playing the game sure brings back memories of CGA graphics back then. Thanks Google for the treat!
Oh by the way, there’s a little Easter Egg with this one. If you click on “Insert Coin” which is originally “I feel lucky” button, you’ll get the 2 Player version which is controllable with AWSD button. Enjoy!
