OMG sample pictures and videos from the Nokia N8 posted – and they are awesome!

Posted:  April 28, 2010   By: ccsoya   2 comments

We’re getting excited with what we’re seeing here and we think you will be too.

Nokia’s official blog has just released the first sample videos and pictures takend from the N8 – and do they look awesome!

Frankly speaking, we’re blown out of the water with what the N8 has produced. It definitely substantiates Nokia’s claim that the N8 will kick the ass of many dedicated digital cameras out there. It is indeed much better than anything we’ve seen on a handphone by far!

Nokia says that the videos and picture are original from the phone and untouched.

Check out the HD video demo after the jump. It will blow your mind, seriously.

(update 1947hrs 28042010) We’re not sure what the dude in the video is up to though.

Google Maps navigation for the rest of us!

Posted:  April 28, 2010   By: soyacincau   6 comments

Google Maps Navigation is now available in Malaysia! Well, sort of, unofficially. There’s a modded Google Maps 4.1 called “Brut Google Maps r6″ which allows Map Navigation to work at places without official support.

That’s right, you can finally use Google’s turn by turn navigation before its officially available outside the United States and recently United Kingdom.

Head on to the thread at XDA Developer Forums to download the BRUT edition of Google Maps 4.1. You would need to allow installation of software of “Unknown sources” from your Android settings first.

We’ve tried it and it isn’t without any flaws and limitation. We discovered that there’s no street name displayed at the top (Unnamed road) and timing of Voice Guidance is too late. The GPS lady voice often gives direction AFTER making the turn, which is pointless. So you would need to depend on the on screen directions instead.

Although it is not perfect, it is still something usable. Thanks to BRUT!

More details here.

[thanks mmmaak for the tip]

Maxis is the official mobile broadcaster of the 2010 FIFA World Cup!

Posted:  April 28, 2010   By: ccsoya   5 comments

Maxis via Twitter have just announced that they are the official mobile broadcaster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. What’s interesting about all this is that Maxis will be streaming all 64 matches live to mobile phones complete with full match replays viewable online. Maxis is the first operator in the world to provide such a service.

Maxis says that it will deliver 400kbps video streams for the live matches.

To deliver the content, Maxis has developed app available for free to support Android and Blackberry devices. The same app is available for the the iPhone as well.

The app will provide World Cup updates including match analysis, daily news updates on the World Cup, along with full match fixtures and results. All this for free.

Oddly enough, there’s no updates on the Maxis website about any of this. Even its lifestyle portal MyLaunchPad, has no mentions of this latest development.

We’ll let you know once the app is available for download.

P1 going the extra mile for customers

The picture above shows P1‘s top management including CEO Michael Lai (second row centre) and the VP of customer service Ahereen Lee (front row right) going through customer service training.

This is interesting.

We received an email from a source within P1 highlighting the extra efforts the company is taking to improve on its customer relationship.

And by the looks of it, they are really putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to customer service.

The source claims that P1′s CEO, Michael Lai has initiated a program dubbed the “You’ve got a friend @ P1” to get the whole company behind the concept of customer service not being a department but a whole company.
