Green Packet & P1 W1MAX Roll Out
Posted on July 27th, 2008 3 commentsWe have been talking about mobile networks so far and have yet to mentioned anything about WiMAX in Malaysia. WiMAX is a new telecommunication technology that would bring broadband to greater heights compared to what Malaysia is having at the moment.
To date, the WiMAX licenses in Malaysia have been awared to only a handful of companies but so far we have yet to seen anything out from them. Fortunately however, there’s one which is closer to reality and that company is Green Packet which has been rebranded recently.
Currently, Green Packet’s commercial broadband arm Packet 1 is showing something tangable which gives some assurance that they are ready to launch. During the WCIT 2008, they have showcased their WiMAX modem which was designed and made in house by Green Packet.
Originally Packet 1′s WiMAX was scheduled to be launched in mid 2008 but now this has been delayed towards the end of 2008. This however isn’t the end of the journey.
Packet 1 W1MAX Trial Programme

Althought Packet 1′s WiMAX is not officially launched, it seems that they are having a different approach on launching its services. Currently they are doing a Trial Programme where residents at selected areas of Kuala Lumpur are able to try WiMAX for free.
Their WiMAX official site at http://www.p1w1max.com.my indicates that the trial programme is open to those who are residing at:
- KLCC
- Subang Jaya
- USJ1 & USJ2
- Sentul
- Setapak
- Gombak
So those staying at the above areas, please do try signing up and let us know your findings.

Any idea when the service will expand to other states? What’s the package like?
CC says [080819/1341]: We don’t have a concrete timeline or expansion plan from P1 but we predict that they are focusing at market centres first. This includes Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru. We think once P1 got Klang Valley covered they will roll-out in Penang island next. We’d do that if we were them.
Marketing wise, we believe P1 will be going all out to capture customers in Klang Valley first. We’ve seen P1 promotion booths here and there (where there’s P1 coverage), so we’re expecting this to increase. We hope expansion to other state will be rapid but we know it all depends on how susceptible consumers are WiMAX broadband and of course this is dependent on how good the service is.
P1 officially launches today, check out the packages here. We are trying to get a test unit.
P1: Feel free to talk to us. We like what you’ve done so far. Silent yet effective. We’re expecting big things from you guys and we hope you won’t disappoint. Good luck!

Hi. I’m looking at taking up subscription with P1. Since you wrote this article, any other advise that you can provide before I take on the service? Have you used it yourself? Don’t know anyone using P1 so not sure how good it is.

i need user & pass cpe l1 wimax
SoyaCincau says [090129]: Bro, if you’re looking to access the modem…at this moment you can’t. No one can. At least that’s what we know for now. We understand that P1 is in the midst of upgrading the firmware of the modem but even this doesn’t allow user to access the P1 modem.
We also know that a lot of gamers and users are making a fuss about not being able to configure port forwarding for gaming…this is a potential big issue for P1 and something they can’t afford to ignore.
P1, if you don’t heed what the gamers and power users want…you’re in a world of hurt!
